1. Towards better understanding of small joint arthroplasty in the hand. Silicone implants, osseointegrated implants and functional outcome
Sammanfattning : Today the most widely used implants for small joint arthroplasty in the hand are flexible silicone implants, introduced by Swanson in the 1960 s. They are encapsulated by connective tissue, which allows pistoning movements in the bone marrow canal This type of implant, mostly used in rheumatic patients, gives high patient satisfaction, relief of pain, correction of deformity and a changed arc of motion towards a more functional position. 2. Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 and CC-chemokine receptor-2 in two different conditions related to atherosclerosis
Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is the leading cause of death in the industrialized parts of the world. The pathological process is characterised by increased lipid influx to the arterial wall due to elevated circulating levels of low density lipoprotein (LDL). LDL is oxidatively modified by reactive oxygen species forming oxLDL. LÄS MER
3. The Ovulatory Process. Studies in the human and the rabbit
Sammanfattning : Background and general summary: Ovulation is the cascade of events ending with follicular rupture and oocyte extrusion. This ovulatory process is triggered by the LH surge, which induces biochemical and biophysical alterations within the preovulatory follicle. LÄS MER
4. Protease Activation and Inflammation in Acute Pancreatitis
Sammanfattning : Approximately 10—20 % of patients with acute pancreatitis (AP) develop a severe disease with high mortality and morbidity. Activation of pancreatic proteases, the inflammatory response and impaired pancreatic circulation are pathophysiological events that are important in order for the disease to develop. LÄS MER
5. Expression and function of vascular estrogen receptors alpha and beta
Sammanfattning : Estrogen receptors (ER) are expressed not only in classical target organs for estrogen like breast and uterus, but also in male reproductive system as well as in non-reproductive organs such as brain, liver and bone. The functions of ER are quite well known in reproductive organs but less information is available regarding their function in vascular tissue. LÄS MER
