  1. 6. Risk and prediction of violent crime in forensic psychiatry

    Författare :Christina Gustavson; Malmö Rättspsykiatri; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; violence; forensic risk assessment; risk factors; recidivism;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: To test the predictive accuracy for violent recidivism of the age at onset of substance abuse, the platelet MAO-B activity, and various combinations of criminological and clinical risk factors among violent offenders in a prospective Swedish follow-up study. Subjects: One hundred violent offenders, consecutively admitted for forensic psychiatric investigations between 1998 and 2001 (baseline). LÄS MER

  2. 7. Amine oxidases in dental pulp : a study with special regard to a semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase with catalytic potency towards serotonin

    Författare :Astrid Norqvist-Sjöberg; Lars Oreland; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The amine oxidizing capacity of piglet dental pulp tissue has been investigated. At least six separate enzyme activities could be distinguished:- a soluble semicarbazide-sensitive (SSAO) activity towards benzylamine, most likely to be derived from the content of blood plasma within the pulp tissue;- a soluble pulp tissue SSAO activity with most properties in common with the plasma enzyme, however with great efficiency not only regarding benzylamine but also tryptamine;- a tissue bound SSAO activity with activity towards benzylamine, tryptamine, tyramine and ß-phenylethylamine;- a tissue bound semicarbazide-sensitive activity towards serotonin (SSA0-5HT) (a combination of properties never reported before);- a mitochondrially bound and clorgyline-sensitive monoamine oxidase-A (MAO-A) activity with activity towards serotonin;- a mitochondrially bound and deprenyl-sensitive MAO-B activity with activity towards e. 3. 8. Visualization of Peripheral Pain Generating Processes and Inflammation in Musculoskeletal Tissue using [11C]-D-deprenyl PET

    Författare :Mikko Aarnio; Torsten Gordh; Jens Sörensen; Magnus Peterson; Lars Ståhle; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ankle injuries; arthritis; binding site; binding target; carbon-11; deprenyl; high-throughput screening; inflammation; monoamine oxi-dase; pain; PET; whiplash; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Sammanfattning : An objective visualization and quantification of pain-generating processes in the periphery would alter pain diagnosis and represent an important paradigm shift in pain research. Positron emission tomography (PET) radioligand [11C]-D-deprenyl has shown an elevated uptake in painful inflammatory arthritis and whiplash-associated disorder. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Anabolic androgenic steroids and central monoaminergic systems : Supratherapeutic doses of nandrolone decanoate affect dopamine and serotonin

    Författare :Carolina Birgner; Lena Bergström; Anna Kindlundh-Högberg; Fred Nyberg; Stefan Brené; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; anabolic androgenic steroids; nandrolone decanoate; dopamine; serotonin; rat; central nervous system; Pharmacology; Farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : Supratherapeutic doses of anabolic androgenic steroids (AASs) are administered, not only as performance-enhancing drugs in the world of sports, but also in order to modify behaviour. AAS abusers are at risk of developing serious physical and psychological side effects such as dependence and aggressive behaviour. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Platelet monoamine oxidase : From genetic regulation to behavior

    Författare :Håkan Garpenstrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; monoamine oxidase; platelet; personality; CNS; serotonin; dopamine; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; medicinsk farmakologi; Medical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic and environmental factors contribute to the development of personality and vulnerability forpsychiatric disorders. The activity of monoamine oxidase in platelets (trbc-MAO), which is mainlygenetically determined, correlates to personality traits such as sensation-seeking and impulsiveness, andlow trbc-MAO activity is more common in patients with type 2 alcoholism.
