  1. 26. Seizure and non-seizure outcomes after epilepsy surgery in selected patient groups

    Författare :Jesper Reinholdsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epilepsy surgery; pediatric; children; intellectual disability; seizure outcome; social outcome; employment; educational outcome; long-term;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses some understudied aspects of epilepsy surgery with special emphasis on children and adolescents. The specific aims were to analyse educational and employment outcomes after epilepsy surgery in childhood or adolescence (Paper I), to analyse long-term seizure outcomes after resective epilepsy surgery in patients with IQ ... 2. 27. Long-term outcome of lumbar disc herniation surgery. Studies on different influencing factors

    Författare :Katarina Silverplats; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lumbar disc herniation surgery; clinical outcome; long-term follow-up; scar formation; expectation; satisfaction; predictive factors; health related quality of life HRQoL ;

    Sammanfattning : Background: A majority of patients suffering from sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation experience a positive natural history and respond well to non-surgical treatment. Patients who fail conservative treatment and are treated surgically have been reported to get satisfactory result in about 70-90% in short-term (1-2 year) follow-up. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Visuospatial inattention and processing speed : Predictors of long-term outcome and patterns of change after ischemic stroke

    Författare :Joel Gerafi; Hans Samuelsson; Tom Manly; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Visuospatial inattention; language impairment; long-term functional outcome; ischemic stroke; neglect; aphasia; lateralized inattention; processing speed; Consciousness and Cognitive Neuroscience; Kognitiv neurovetenskap och filosofi; visuospatial inattention; language impairment; long-term functional outcome; ischemic stroke; neglect; aphasia; lateralized inattention; processing speed;

    Sammanfattning : Impairments of visuospatial attention, language, and processing speed (PS) are common early after stroke and have been associated with unfavorable short-term functional outcomes but little is known about this relationship in the long-term. This thesis investigates 1) the potential importance of visuospatial inattention (VSI) and language impairments (LI) as predictors of functional outcomes 7 years after an ischemic stroke (studies I-II) and 2) presence of lateralized inattention 7 years after stroke and potential predictors of this phenomenon (study III). 4. 29. Jejunoileal bypass for morbid obesity : studies of the long-term effects

    Författare :Anders Sylvan; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Jejunoileal bypass; Obesity; Surgery; Liver biopsy; Fibrinolytic system; Colonoscopy; Flow cytometry; Cancer risk;

    Sammanfattning : This study was aimed at investigating adverse and beneficial long-term effects of jejunoileal bypass (JIB) sugery in obese patients. The JIB was the first widly used surgical procedure for treatment of morbid obesity. The weight loss was remarkable, but the procedure was declared not appropiate for obesity surgery in the late 1970's. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Back pain : long-term course and predictive factors

    Författare :Paul Enthoven; Peter Croft; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :back pain; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Background. Better knowledge of the long-term course in patients treated in primary care for back pain (clinical course) and in patients that do not receive specific treatment after seeking care (clinical natural course) is needed to enable health professionals and their patients to understand the likely course of back pain and to make clinical decisions about treatment alternatives.
