26. Phosphatidylinositol phosphate kinases in the moss Physcomitrella patens
Sammanfattning : Phosphatidylinositol(4,5)bisphosphate, [PtdIns(4,5)P2], is a signalling lipid which is involved in many important processes in animal cells such as cytoskeleton organization, intracellular vesicular trafficking, secretion, cell motility, regulation of ion channels, and nuclear signalling pathways. In contrast to the animal field, much less is known about the roles of PtdIns(4,5)P2 and its synthesizing enzyme, phosphatidylinositol phosphate kinase (PtdInsP kinase), in plants. LÄS MER
27. Streptococcus pneumoniae and the host : activation, evasion and modulation of the human innate immune system
Sammanfattning : Streptococcus pneumoniae is a major cause of severe infections such as pneumonia, septicemia and meningitis, but also a common colonizer of the nasopharynx in children. In most individuals colonization is harmless and eventually cleared by the immune system, but in rare cases pneumococci can reach deeper into the body and cause diseases. LÄS MER
28. Cardiac cell identification and isolation
Sammanfattning : Identification and isolation of cardiomyocytes from the heart, embryonic stem cells, or induced pluripotent stem cells is a challenging task and will require specific isolation techniques. Less than 30% of the cells within the murine heart are cardiomyocytes and, what is more, there are multiple sub-populations of cardiomyocytes like atrial, ventricular and conduction system cardiomyocytes. 29. Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Tumor Growth Inhibition and Cartilage Differentiation
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis has been focused on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). In the two first studies, the effects of MSCs on tumor growth and development in vitro and in vivo was investigated. LÄS MER
30. Aspects on gender, quality of life and diastolic function in patients with cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes
Sammanfattning : Background: A majority of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) suffer and die from a cardiovascular disease (CVD). Because of the increasing prevalence of diabetes, it today rivals smoking, hypertension and hypercholesterolemia as a major risk factor for CVD resulting in a need for more attention and further investigations.
