16. Methodologies to assess the fate of polar organic compounds in aquatic environments
Sammanfattning : Polar organic compounds (POCs) are chemicals with polar functional groups in their structure. The functional groups make the compounds hydrophilic and less prone to partition with biota. However, the knowledge of their fate is limited due to difficulties associated with their measurements. 17. The FLT3 Tyrosine Kinase in Leukemia : Deciphering the Downstream Signaling Events and Drug-Escape Mechanisms
Sammanfattning : Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a severe disease, which originates in blood-forming cells. Although major advances in understanding the biology of AML, the majority of patients eventually succumb to the disease. LÄS MER
18. New concepts and techniques for quantification and trace analysis by gas chromatography
Sammanfattning : In the first part of this thesis, strategies for avoiding systematic errors when quantifying the main components in mixtures of solvents has been developed (paper I). It is shown that variations in density caused by variations in sample composition and/or volume contraction need to be taken into account. In this way, quantification can be improved. LÄS MER
19. Knock Knock Knock, Who is there? - Cell Crosstalk within the Bone Marrow
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on the subject of cell-cell interaction. Our body is composed of cells, most of them are integrated in a network with other cells that together forms tissues and organs. Every cell type in these complex organs has its special task and location. LÄS MER
20. Genetic Mechanisms during Terminal Cell Fate Specification in the Drosophila CNS
Sammanfattning : Specification of the many unique neuronal subtypes found in the nervous system depends on spatiotemporal cues and terminal selector cascades, mostly acting in sequential combinatorial codes of transcription factors (TFs) to dictate cell fate. Out of 10,000 cells in the Drosophila embryonic ventral nerve cord (VNC), only 28 cells selectively express Nplp1. LÄS MER
