  1. 11. Study of pruritus in psoriasis vulgaris : role of tachykinins

    Författare :Beni Amatya; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Itch; pruritus; psoriasis; tachykinin; questionnaire; focus group; intradermal injection;

    Sammanfattning : Pruritus has not been considered as the most important symptom of psoriasis. In the present thesis various methodologies have been used to investigate this symptom in psoriasis. The focus groups created a proper atmosphere for discussion on different aspects of pruritus in psoriasis. Pruritus was most common on the lower back and legs. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Somatosensory Circuits in the Central Nervous System

    Författare :Hannah M. Weman; Malin C. Lagerström; Sarah E. Ross; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glycine receptor alpha 3; urocortin 3; vesicular monoaminergic transporter 2; nociception; pruriception; spinal cord; somatosensory cortex; DREADD; rabies tracing; transcriptomics; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Spinal glycinergic neurons prevent spontaneous sensations of pain and itch, and development of persistent pain and itch conditions. The glycine receptor alpha 3 subunit (GLRA3) is suggested to be involved in certain inflammatory models, but not in acute nociception. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of bile acid receptor activation for the treatment of human liver disease

    Författare :Samer Al-Dury; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicinska sjukdomar; Gastroenterologi och hepatologi; FXR; IBAT; Gallsyror; Obesitas; Gallstenar;

    Sammanfattning : Farnesoid X receptor (FXR) is a nuclear transcription factor that is activated by bile acids and regulates bile acid homeostasis, glucose and lipid metabolism. FXR activation by a ligand has been identified as a therapeutic modality for a range of liver and metabolic diseases. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Atopic dermatitis and distress

    Författare :Saly Mustafa Abdelhadi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition characterized by itching, redness, and skin lesions, affecting approximately 10–20% of children and 1–3% of adults worldwide. Distress associated with AD can negatively impact quality of life, work, and daily activities. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Genetic control of sensory neuron diversification

    Författare :Marina C M Franck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The somatosensory system of vertebrates transmits information from external and internal environments to the brain. This information relates to various modalities such as touch, temperature, itch and pain. The different modalities require a variety of subtypes of sensory neurons, tuned to detect and transmit specific stimuli. LÄS MER
