11. Role of Neutrophils and Innate Immune Mechanisms in Urinary Tract Infections
Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infections (UTI) are among the most common infections in man. Despite their prevalence, information on the molecular mechanisms defects that explain the increased susceptibility to disease are lacking. LÄS MER
12. Liver transplantation in man. Gastrointestinal perfusion and inflammatory response
Sammanfattning : Patients undergoing liver transplantation develop a systemic inflammatory response which eventually continues with development of a multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). Gastro-intestinal hypoxia or bacterial translocation has been proposed as the "motor" of MODS. LÄS MER
13. Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms Grade 3 : Biological and Clinical Aspects
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate biological and clinical aspects of G3 gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (G3 GEP-NENs).In our first study, the expression of the tumor suppressor p53 was investigated. In a cohort of G3 GEP-NENs we found the expression of p53 protein to be present in 39% of 124 cases. LÄS MER
14. Focal atrial tachycardia : Insights concerning the arrhythmogenic substrate based on analysis of intracardiac electrograms and inflammatory markers
Sammanfattning : Background: Focal atrial tachycardias are tachycardias characterized by a radial spread of activation from a discrete area of the atrial myocardium. They account for 10-15% of supraventricular tachycardias and are generally poorly responsive to pharmacological treatment. The pathophysiologic substrate of these arrhythmias remains poorly understood. LÄS MER
15. Influence of bone-associated and cardiovascular biomarkers on vascular events and mortality in relation to renal dysfunction
Sammanfattning : Biomarkers can help physicians identify subjects with an increased cardiovascular risk. Apart from the clinical factors, some biomarkers have been recognized as important predictors and risk factors for cardiovascular disease in renal disease. LÄS MER
