1. Hypercoagulation in preeclampsia : implications for maternal health and fetal growth
Sammanfattning : Background: Preeclampsia (PE) is a serious complication of pregnancy characterized by hypertension, proteinuria, oedema and hypercoagulation. Damage in organs, such as the liver and kidney, is harmful to the maternal health. Impairments in placental function cause intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR). LÄS MER
2. Reproductive aspects of the protein C system in women
Sammanfattning : Of great importance to the reproductive system in women are the activating and inhibiting factors which maintain haemostatic balance. These play a prominent role in the prevention of abnormal bleeding, at ovulation as well as during menstruation, pregnancy and delivery. The coagulation cascade is primarily down regulated by the protein C system. LÄS MER
3. Determination of the overall haemostasis potential and fibrin gel permeability : method development and application in research and in clinical materials
Sammanfattning : We have previously developed a laboratory method that may screen the Overall Haemostasis Potential (OHP) in plasma based on spectophotometric measurement of an area under the fibrin aggregation curve in citrated plasma samples to which tiny amounts of exogenous thrombin and tissue-plasminogen activator (t-PA) are added. When the fibrin aggregation curve is created, the fibrinogen originally present in plasma is gradually converted to fibrin by the generated thrombin. LÄS MER
4. Perioperative blood saving techniques with coagulative evaluation in orthopedic surgery
Sammanfattning : Allogeneic blood transfusion, although often needed in major surgery with large per-and postoperative bleeding, is fraught with dangers such as clerical mishandling, immunosuppression and blood-borne infections. It is therefore important to find ways to avoid allogeneic blood transfusion by means of less bleeding, better tolerance of the bleeding or alternatives to allogeneic blood. LÄS MER
5. Coagulation and inflammation in experimental endotoxemia in vitro and in vivo : monitoring method and effects of nicotinamide
Sammanfattning : In gram negative sepsis, endotoxin from the bacterial membrane elicits proinflammatory and procoagulant host responses. Sepsis and its frequent complication disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) are leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the intensive care. LÄS MER
