  1. 1. Conjugated Polymers for Neural Interfaces : Prospects, possibilities and future challenges

    Författare :Maria Asplund; Hans von Holst; Olle Inganäs; Thomas Stieglitz; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; neuroprosthetics; conjugated polymers; conducting polymers; PEDOT; functional electrical stimulation; neural electrodes; Medical engineering; Medicinsk teknik; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Functional materials; Funktionella material;

    Sammanfattning : Within the field of neuroprosthetics the possibility to use implanted electrodes for communication with the nervous system is explored. Much effort is put into the material aspects of the electrode implant to increase charge injection capacity, suppress foreign body response and build micro sized electrode arrays allowing close contact with neurons. 2. 2. 3D Finite Element Modeling of Cervical Musculature and its Effect on Neck Injury Prevention

    Författare :Sofia Hedenstierna; Hans von Holst; Peter Halldin; Jac Wismans; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Finite Element; Cervical Musculature; Neck injury prediction; Continuum Mechanics; Solid Elements; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Injuries to the head and neck are potentially the most severe injuries in humans, since they may damage the nervous system. In accidents, the cervical musculature stabilizes the neck in order to prevent injury to the spinal column and is also a potential site for acute muscle strain, resulting in neck pain. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Impact of Tissue Characteristics on Radio-Frequency Lesioning and Navigation in the Brain : Simulation, experimental and clinical studies

    Författare :Johannes Johansson; Karin Wårdell; Hans von Holst; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Brain; Radio frequency ablation; Finite element method; Monte Carlo simulation; light reflectance; Radiological research; Radiologisk forskning;

    Sammanfattning : Radio-Frequency (RF) lesioning, or RF ablation, is a method that uses high frequency currents for thermal coagulation of pathological tissue or signal pathways. The current is delivered from an electrode, which also contains a temperature sensor permitting control of the current at a desired target temperature. In the brain, RF lesioning can e.g. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Finite Element and Neuroimaging Techniques toImprove Decision-Making in Clinical Neuroscience

    Författare :Xiaogai Li; Svein Kleiven; Hans von Holst; Bernhard A Schrefler; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Traumatic brain injury; Intracranial Pressure; Brain edema; Gravitational force; Finite Element Model; Poroelastic parameter; Decompressive craniotomy; Image registration; Water content; Strain level; Diffusion Weighted Imaging;

    Sammanfattning : Our brain, perhaps the most sophisticated and mysterious part of the human body, to some extent, determines who we are. However, it’s a vulnerable organ. When subjected to an impact, such as a traffic accident or sport, it may lead to traumatic brain injury (TBI) which can have devastating effects for those who suffer the injury. LÄS MER
