  1. 16. Regulation of gene expression in fruit flies : how does it start, and will it be remembered?

    Författare :Aman Zare; Per Stenberg; Yuri B. Schwartz; Åsa Rasmuson-Lestander; Guillaume Filion; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila; epigenetics; transcription; gene regulation; transcription maintenance; CBP; polymerase pausing; Polycomb group proteins; transgenerational inheritance of transcriptional response; gut microbiome; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : One of the most distinctive features of eukaryotic chromosomes is the bundling of DNA together with functionally associated RNA and proteins in chromatin. This allows huge amounts of DNA to be packed inside the very tiny space of the nucleus, and alterations in the structure of chromatin enable access to the DNA for transcription (“reading” genes by production of RNA copies). 2. 17. Exploration of bacteria associated with Anopheles mosquitoes around the world : For the prevention of transmission of malaria

    Författare :Louise K. J. Nilsson; Olle Terenius; Staffan Svärd; Sebastian Håkansson; Michael Strand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microbiota; microbiome; vector-borne disease; 16S rRNA gene; amplicon sequencing; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Every year, hundreds of thousands of people die from malaria. Malaria is a disease caused by parasites, which are spread by female vector mosquitoes of the genus Anopheles. Current control measures against malaria are based on drugs against the parasites and vector control using insecticides. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Obsessive-compulsive disorder : novel insights on executive functions, gut microbiome, and genetics

    Författare :Long-Long Chen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterized by intrusive thoughts and images, and repetitive, time-consuming compulsions. It causes disability and impaired quality of life. The neurobiological model of OCD revolves around dysfunctional brain circuits, referred to as the cortico-striato-thalamocortical (CSTC) loop. 4. 19. Fetma och övervikt i barndomen - tidig identifiering av riskfaktorer

    Författare :Josefine Roswall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; childhood obesity; early riskfactors; waist circumference; gut microbiota;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The incidence of childhood obesity is increasing. Many children become obese during preschool years and stay obese, with lifelong health consequences, such as impaired insulin sensitivity. There is growing evidence that factors during intrauterine life and infancy influence the risk of developing obesity. LÄS MER

  5. 20. The role of microbial translocation and gut microbiota in HIV-1 infection

    Författare :Jan Vesterbacka; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : HIV-1 infection is characterized by persistent systemic inflammation and immune activation, even in patients receiving effective antiretroviral therapy (ART). Translocation of microbial compounds from a leaky gut to systemic circulation, so called microbial translocation (MT), is a major driver of the immune activation. LÄS MER
