21. On the wood chipping process : a study on basic mechanisms in order to optimize chip properties for pulping
Sammanfattning : In both the chemical and mechanical pulping process, the logs are cut into wood chips by a disc chipper before fibre separation. To make the wood chipping process more efficient, one have to investigate in detail the coupling between process parameters and the quality of the chips. LÄS MER
22. Transducers for impact force and mechanical impedance based on strain measurement
Sammanfattning : Transducers for impact force and mechanical point impedance are studied. In both cases the transducers are based on resistive strain measurement. Two prototypes of impact force transducers based on different concepts of mean strain measurement are developed and tested. The results are satisfactory and show that the suggested concepts are suitable. LÄS MER
23. Forced use on arm function after stroke : clinically rated and self-reported outcome and measurement during the sub-acute phase
Sammanfattning : The overall aim was to evaluate the effectiveness of forced use on arm and hand recovery after stroke by applying a restraining sling on the non-affected arm and to investigate psychometric properties of selected upper limb measures.Papers I and II reported a randomised trial with 1- and 3-month follow-ups. 24. Intraocular pressure : clinical aspects and new measurement methods
Sammanfattning : Intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement is a routine procedure and a fundament in glaucoma care. Elevated IOP is the main risk factor for glaucoma, and to date, reduction of IOP is the only possible treatment. In a retrospective clinical material, the prevalence of open angle glaucoma was estimated on the west coast of Iceland. LÄS MER
25. Force, falls and fear of falls in myotonic dystrophy type 1. Cross-sectional and longitudinal studies
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Background: Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is a neuromuscular multisystemic disorder with slowly progressive muscle weakness. The overall purpose of this thesis was, in adult patients with DM1, to investigate factors of importance for functional balance skills and falls, and to investigate the natural course of muscle force and functional balance impairments, with reliable measurement methods.
