  1. 11. Hormonal Regulation of the Human CYP27A1 and CYP7B1 Genes

    Författare :Wanjin Tang; Kjell Wikvall; Maria Norlin; Mats Gåfvels; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pharmaceutical biochemistry; CYP27A1; CYP7B1; cholesterol; estrogen; androgen; prostate; glucocorticoid receptor; fetal development; Farmaceutisk biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : CYP27A1 and CYP7B1 are widely expressed in various human tissues and are two key enzymes involved in the pathways for conversion of cholesterol to bile acids. Also, CYP27A1 is involved in bioactivation of vitamin D3 and CYP7B1 plays a role in 7alpha-hydroxylation of dehydroepiandrosterone and other steroids. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Stroke, Sex and Vascular Receptor Changes in the Brain

    Författare :Hilda Ahnstedt; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; endothelin receptors; Cerebral ischemia; sex; estrogen; progesterone; sex differences; human cerebral arteries; endothelin-1; angiotensin II; middle cerebral artery occlusion; extra-cellular signal regulated kinase 1 and 2;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is a severe cerebrovascular disease in which the neuronal tissue and vasculature of the brain undergo ischemia-evoked alterations. We have demonstrated an increased expression of cerebrovascular contractile receptors in the brain. This is hypothesized to mitigate cerebral blood flow and exacerbate tissue damage after stroke. 3. 13. Effect of estrogen on longitudinal bone growth

    Författare :Andrei S Chagin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Growth plate; chondrocytes; estrogen receptors; androgen; tamoxifen.;

    Sammanfattning : Longitudinal bone growth occurs at the growth plate, a thin layer of cartilage between the epiphysis and the metaphysis of long bones. In the growth plate resting chondrocytes proliferate, differentiate into a hypertrophic form, and finally become terminal hypertrophic chondrocytes before giving rise to bone. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Estrogen : molecular mechanisms of antidiabetic action

    Författare :Saad Misfer Al-Qahtani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome is multifactorial and hormones play an essential role in its development. Estrogen loss in postmenopausal women has been linked to several features of metabolic syndrome, while estrogen replacement therapy reverses these pathological and metabolic features. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Estrogen receptor signalling in mammary epithelial cells

    Författare :Malin Hedengran Faulds; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :ER; STAT5; mammary epithelial cell differentiation; EGF; DAX-1;

    Sammanfattning : The mammary gland is a complex tissue going through cycles of extensive proliferation and differentiation. Many hormones are involved in the regulation of development of the mammary gland, including estrogen, prolactin and epidermal growth factor (EGF). LÄS MER
