26. Hydro-Kinetic Energy Conversion : Resource and Technology
Sammanfattning : The kinetic energy present in tidal currents and other water courses has long been appreciated as a vast resource of renewable energy. The work presented in this doctoral thesis is devoted to both the characteristics of the hydro-kinetic resource and the technology for energy conversion. LÄS MER
27. Interplay of the Electrical and Mechanical Properties of Conjugated Polymers
Sammanfattning : Knowledge about organic semiconductors has drastically developed in the past decades. They have a myriad of applications in areas such as energy harvesting and storage, bioelectronics and wearable electronics. For most of these applications, mechanical flexibility is desirable. 28. Polyethylene/metal oxide nanocomposites for electrical insulation in future HVDC-cables : probing properties from nano to macro
Sammanfattning : Nanocomposites of polyethylene and metal oxide nanoparticles have shown to be a feasible approachto the next generation of insulation in high voltage direct current cables. In order to reach an operationvoltage of 1 MV new insulation materials with reduced conductivity and increased breakdown strengthas compared to modern low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is needed. 29. Optical Guiding and Feedback Structures in GaN-Based Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers
Sammanfattning : The Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) made from GaAs-based materials is an established infrared light source, and is produced in large volumes for short-distance optical links, computer mice, and thermal processing systems. A wide range of applications, such as high-resolution printing, general lighting, and biomedical diagnosis and treatment could benefit from using a VCSEL with blue or ultraviolet emission. LÄS MER
30. Integrated Nonlinear Optics in Silicon Nitride Waveguides
Sammanfattning : Integrated optics platforms offer the possibility to implement compact photonic devices for nonlinear optics applications. Modern nanofabrication facilities allow thefabrication of sub-micron-sized waveguide geometries that confine light to reach very high optical intensities. LÄS MER
