6. Quantifying effects of antimicrobial drug combinations by modelling and simulation
Sammanfattning : Antibiotic resistance is becoming an accelerating issue, both in the treatment of nosocomial infections and for public health in general. There is a pressing need for innovative methods to understand how available antibiotics could be combined to overcome and limit the emergence of resistance. LÄS MER
7. Vaccination against drug-resistant HIV
Sammanfattning : Combinations of antiretroviral drugs against human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) have effectively postponed the progression to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). However, an effective vaccine against HIV-1 would undisputedly be the optimal protective strategy against the virus, especially in resource-poor settings. LÄS MER
8. Teenage Kicks – The Differential Development of Drug Use, Drunkenness, and Criminal Behaviour in Early to Mid-Adolescence
Sammanfattning : This thesis studies the development of drug use, drunkenness, and criminal behaviour in early to mid-adolescence. Its main aims are to improve knowledge about how and why these three behaviours develop and to contribute towards the development of theory that can have applications in prevention policy and practice. The thesis comprises four studies. LÄS MER
9. Modeling of combination therapy to support drug discovery in oncology
Sammanfattning : Mathematical models based on ordinary differential equations, with impulses, are used to describe tumor growth after different treatment combinations, including chemicals as well as radiation. The models are calibrated, using a nonlinear mixed-effects framework, based on time series data of tumor volume from animal experiments. LÄS MER
10. CYP2C19 polymorphisms in drug metabolism and response
Sammanfattning : Individuals vary widely in their response to drug treatment. After receiving doses of a drug that are recommended based on a population average, some patients could have an insufficient response, whereas others may experience adverse effects. LÄS MER
