  1. 1. Ischemic brain damage following transient and moderate compression of sensorimotor cortex in Sprague-Dawley and diabetic Goto-Kakizaki rats

    Författare :Jurgita Kundrotiené; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cortical compression; cerebral ischemia; neuroprotection; hyperglycemia; GotoKakizaki rats.;

    Sammanfattning : Several animal models have been developed to facilitate the investigation of biochemical, physiological, and neurological events after cerebral ischemia. In this study we present a new animal model which reliably describes morphological changes and neurological deficits produced by mild to moderate brain ischemia and which can be used to identify novel, potentially useful, neuroprotective agents. 2. 2. Recovery from focal brain ischemia induced by extradural compression in diabetic and non-diabetic rats

    Författare :Tiago J T Prazeres Moreira; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Focal ischemia; locomotor activity; lever-press task; neurodegeneration; hyperglycemia; Goto-Kakizaki rats; Fluoro-Jade; heme-oxygenase; astrocytes; microglia.;

    Sammanfattning : Cerebrovascular disease and head trauma are among the leading causes of death and disability. In addition to severe motor disturbances, ischemia resulting from stroke or traumatic brain injury (TBI) can cause mild to severe cognitive deficits. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cell damage and tissue repair in the central nervous system : electron mi[c]roscopy study of neuronal death and cell replacement

    Författare :Benita Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Ischemia; cell death; repair; stem cells; neurogenesis; EM; MRI;

    Sammanfattning : The central nervous system is vulnerable to various insults and particularly to ischemia. To mimic ischemia, a photochemical or compression lesion was induced in the right sensory motor cortex of rat brains. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Brain injury biomechanics in closed-head impact : studies on injury epidemiology, tolerance criteria, biomechanics and traffic injury prevention

    Författare :David Viano; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Closed-head impact; brain injury; biomechanics; injury mechanisms; tolerance criteria; epidemiology; and primary prevention.;

    Sammanfattning : Permanent disability from traumatic brain injury is a devastating consequence of traffic crashes. Injury prevention is a fruitful approach to reduce the incidence and severity of disabling brain injury. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Experimental cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation : A study of cerebral perfusion with special reference to the postresuscitation disturbances

    Författare :Ala Nozari; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Cardiac arrest; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; cerebral blood flow; post-resuscitation period; epinephrine; vasopressin; aortic occlusion; isoprostane; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Sammanfattning : Ischemic neuronal injury continues to be a major delimiting factor in achieving successful clinical outcomesafter resuscitation from cardiac arrest. In this thesis, a pig model of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) wasused to address the effects of different interventions on cerebral blood flow and oxygenation during CPR and theinitial postresuscitation period.
