    Sammanfattning : Colorectal cancer (CRC) is defined as a cancer appearing in the colon or in the rectum. In Sweden, ~ 6300 individuals were diagnosed with the disease in 2014 and ~ 2550 individuals diagnosed with CRC die each year due to their cancer. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease characterized by insulin deficiency, due to immune-mediated destruction of beta cells. Current knowledge regarding the period preceding disease onset comes, to a large extent, from studying risk cohorts based on relatives of T1D-patients, as they have an increased disease risk. 3. 3. Homocysteine and its determinants in relation to cardiovascular risk factors and myocardial infarction

    Författare :Elisabet Söderström; Johan Hultdin; Torbjörn K. Nilsson; Anders Larsson; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Background: Globally, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke, are the leading cause of illness and death and constitute a significant part of the disease burden in Sweden and Western Europe. Age, hypertension, smoking, obesity, dyslipoproteinemia, diabetes, and impaired renal function are considered established risk factors for CVD. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On certain genetic and metabolic risk factors for carotid stenosis and stroke

    Författare :Pär Wanby; Lars Brudin; Martin Carlsson; Milita Crisby; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Carotid artery diseases; Carrier proteins; genetics; Cerebrovascular accident; Cerebrovascular disorders; Genetic predisposition to disease; Polymorphism; genetic; Medicine; Medicin; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The present study evaluated genetic and metabolic factors influencing the risk of acute cerebrovascular disease (CVD) and internal carotid artery stenosis (ICA stenosis) in a Swedish community. The threonine (T) containing protein of the FABP2 A54T gene polymorphism has a greater affinity for long chain fatty acids (FFAs) than the alanine (A) containing protein. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Recurrent stroke : risk factors, predictors and prognosis

    Författare :Johanna Pennlert; Marie Eriksson; Per-Gunnar Wiklund; Bo Carlberg; Hélène Pessah-Rasmussen; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Background Many risk factors for stroke are well characterized and might, at least to some extent, be similar for first-ever stroke and for recurrent stroke events. However, previous studies have shown heterogeneous results on predictors and rates of stroke recurrence. LÄS MER
