  1. 16. Not all those who wander are lost : A study of cancer cells by digital holographic imaging, fluorescence and a combination thereof

    Författare :Sofia Kamlund; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Digital holography; longitudinal tracking; breast cancer stem cells; salinomycin; EMT; Digital Holography; longitudinal tracking of individual cells; breast cancer cells; Breast cancer; Salinomycin; cancer stem cells; Fluorescence microscopy; EMT;

    Sammanfattning : Cells are commonly used in research to evaluate toxicity and efficiency of drugs. However, to further increase the usefulness of cells as well as the understandings of effects of different interventions, new methods must constantly be developed and refined. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Gene regulation by different proteins of TGFβ superfamily

    Författare :Varun Maturi; Aristidis Moustakas; Anita Göndör; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; EMT; Snail1; ZEB1; TGFβ; BMP; Gene regulation;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis discusses how gene regulation by transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) family cytokines is affected by post-translational modifications of different transcription factors. The thesis also focuses on gene regulation by transcription factors involved in TGFβ signaling. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Cell signaling by Rho and Miro GTPases : Studies of Rho GTPases in Cytoskeletal Reorganizations and of Miro GTPases in Mitochondrial Dynamics

    Författare :Åsa Fransson; Pontus Aspenström; Harry Mellor; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ras superfamily; Rho GTPases; cytoskeleton; Miro GTPases; mitochondrial dynamics; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The Ras superfamily of GTPases embraces six major branches of proteins: the Ras, Rab, Ran, Arf, Rho and Miro subfamilies. The majority of GTPases function as binary switches that cycle between active GTP-bound and inactive GDP-bound states. This thesis will focus primarily on the biological functions of the Rho and Miro proteins. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Microsystems based on polypyrrole microactuators : microrobots and cell clinics

    Författare :Edwin W. H. Jager; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Conducting polymers like polypyrrole (PPy) are suitable materials for actuators. PPy undergoes a volume change, driven by redox processes accompanied by ion movement. This volume change is reversible. By combining PPy with a support and/or electrode layer into a bilayer, actuators can be made. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Neuronal Networks of Movement : Slc10a4 as a Modulator & Dmrt3 as a Gait-keeper

    Författare :Martin Larhammar; Klas Kullander; Leif Andersson; Åsa Wallén-Mackenzie; Robert Fyffe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Synaptic vesicle transporter; Neuromodulation; Dopamine; Central Pattern Generator; Locomotion; Gait; Horse; Mouse; Commissural Inhibitory Interneuron; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Nerve cells are organized into complex networks that comprise the building blocks of our nervous system. Neurons communicate by transmitting messenger molecules released from synaptic vesicles. Alterations in neuronal circuitry and synaptic signaling contribute to a wide range of neurological conditions, often with consequences for movement. LÄS MER
