The purpose of this work is to detect a pattern: the concordance of Ethics and Aesthetics, Poetics and Politics in the most influential American thinker of the nineteenth century. It is an attempt to trace a basic concept of the Emersonian transcendentalist doctrine, its development, its philosophical meaning and practical implications. LÄS MER

This study focusses on the question of the moral status of actions, a question subdivided into two further questions: 'What is held to characterize morally right action?' and 'What is a morally good life?' Texts by Johan Olof Wallin (1779-1839)-pastor, Archbishop in the Church of Sweden, hymn writer and poet-are analyzed in detail. The subject of the dissertation is a theoretical discussion of the possibilities and limitations of reformist politics. This thesis is the first interpretation of Benjamin Höijer’s philosophy of art. Höijer (1767–1812), who was a Swedish representative of German idealism, is considered one of the brightest thinkers in the history of Swedish philosophy, although to this day he has been largely neglected. LÄS MER
