  1. 1. The role of Assortative Mating in the Initial Stages of Sympatric and Parapatric Speciation

    Författare :Emma Rova; Mats Björklund; Göran Arnqvist; James Mallet; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Callosobruchus maculatus; host fidelity; assortative mating; inbreeding; experimental evidence; sympatric speciation; parapatric speciation; Biology; Biologi; Biologi med inriktning mot zooekologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Divergence in the face of gene flow is perhaps the most wildly disputed subject among researchers through time. The debate is an old one and we find its origin as far back as the era of Darwin. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Hybrid zone dynamics, assortative mating, and migratory programmes in a willow warbler migratory divide

    Författare :Keith W. Larson; Susanne Åkesson; Staffan Bensch; Martin Schaefer; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; migratory divide; phenotype; willow warbler; hybrid zone; tension zone; Phylloscopus trochilus; migratype; assortative mating; migration; biology; biologi; evolutionär genetik; evolutionary genetics; migratory divide; phenotype; willow warbler; hybrid zone; tension zone; Phylloscopus trochilus; migratype; assortative mating; migration;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I will compare and contrast the two willow warbler subspecies (Phylloscopus trochilus trochilus and P. t. acredula) with differing migratory phenotypes (or "migratype") in the context of their migratory divide and hybrid zone in central Sweden. Their migratory programs differ in the direction and distance traveled during migration. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Reproductive isolation at contact zones

    Författare :Samuel Perini; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hybrid zone; gene flow; genetic variants; mating; local adaptation; marine species; speciation;

    Sammanfattning : Speciation is among the most important evolutionary processes that contribute to biodiversity. It involves the formation of new species that have become reproductively isolated through a process that is not linear and varies in time and space. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Essays on Income Risk and Inequality

    Författare :Karl Harmenberg; Per Krusell; Fatih Guvenen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; income risk; income inequality; consumption; durable goods; cyclical skewness; top-income inequality; gender gap; glass ceiling; assortative mating; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : Consumption Dynamics under Time-Varying Unemployment Risk We study the response of households' demand for durable goods to fluctuations in unemployment risk. First, using survey data, we document that household durable expenditures react strongly to unemployment risk, while the effect on nondurable expenditures is indistinguishable from zero. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Essays in Empirical Labour Economics : Family Background, Gender and Earnings

    Författare :Lalaina Hirvonen; Anders Björklund; Tor Eriksson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Intergenerational mobility; Assortative mating; Nonlinearity; Female labour force participation; Sex-mix composition; Cognitive and non-cognitive abilities; Education; Economics; Nationalekonomi; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : All three essays in this thesis are concerned with the interrelation of family, gender and labour market outcomes. The first paper investigates family earnings mobility between parents and sons, and parents and daughters, highlighting the role of assortative mating. The results suggest that daughters are more mobile than sons. LÄS MER
