  1. 1. Direct and indirect effects of fish predation and excretion in aquatic food webs

    Författare :José Luiz Attayde; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine biology; Hydrobiology; zooplankton; resilience; predation; phytoplankton; nutrient enrichment; nutrient recycling; interaction strength; herbivory; food webs; food chain; excretion; fish; detritus; detritivory; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to elucidate the mechanisms by which planktivorous fish can affect planktonic communities in lakes and how they may affect benthic communities through their effects on planktonic communities. In a laboratory experiment, nutrients released by fish increased algal biomass and altered phytoplankton community structure, suggesting that fish can affect phytoplankton by directly releasing nutrients. 2. 2. Species interactions and energy transfer in aquatic food webs

    Författare :Jens Munk Nielsen; Monika Winder; Sture Hansson; Michael T. Brett; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aquatic food webs; zooplankton; stable isotope analysis amino acids; molecular diet analysis; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Food webs are structured by intricate nodes of species interactions which govern the flow of organic matter in natural systems. Despite being long recognized as a key component in ecology, estimation of food web functioning is still challenging due to the difficulty in accurately measuring species interactions within a food web. 3. 3. The role of allelopathy in microbial food webs

    Författare :Astrid Weissbach; Catherine Legrand; Ellen Van Donk; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microbial food web; Allelopathy; Alexandrium tamarense; Prymnesium parvum; Infochemicals; marine plankton community; Freshwater ecology; Limnisk ekologi; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Phytoplankton produce allelochemicals; excreted chemical substances that are affecting other microorganisms in their direct environment.In my thesis, I investigated strain specific variability in the expression of allelochemicals of the harmful flagellate Prymnesium parvum, that is euryhaline but mainly bloom forming in brackish water. 4. 4. Forests, Functions, and Food Webs : Riparian processes through an ecological and molecular lens

    Författare :Jeffery Marker; Eva Bergman; Rolf Lutz Eckstein; Denis Lafage; Rachel E. Bowes; Ann Erlandsson; John S. Richardson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Riparian systems; functional diversity; stable isotope analysis; metabarcoding; Tetragnathidae; Lycosidae; forestry management; prey subsidies; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Riparian systems are critical ecological interfaces that have a significant impact on the surrounding aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. The riparian and surrounding systems have significant roles in regulating energy flow, providing essential nutrients, and supporting unique species, making them important for ecosystem function. 5. 5. The importance of terrestrial carbon in plankton food webs

    Författare :Cesar Bolivar Daniel; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; lakes; carbon; zooplankton; Spumella elongata; Poterioochromonas malhamensis; flagellates; bacteria; stable isotopes; photochemistry; autochthonous; DOC; allochthonous; plankton; Ekologi; Hydrobiology; marine biology; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Allochthonous substances, i.e. produced in terrestrial ecosystems, are known to fuel bacterial production in humic lakes. I observed that allochthonous carbon subsidizes bacteria even at high levels of phytoplankton biomass. LÄS MER
