  1. 1. Insect immunity : fractionation and characterization of some immune proteins induced by primary infections of giant silk moth pupae

    Författare :Torgny Rasmuson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : A potent antibacterial activity in hemolymph of giant silk moth pupae is demonstrated. The system is inducible and RNA and protein synthesis are needed for the expression of the activity. Both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria were found to be susceptible. The activities could be selectively inhibited, indicating a multicomponent system. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Insect immunity : Inducible antibacterial proteins from Hyalophora cecropia

    Författare :Dan Hultmark; Hans Boman; Sten Hammarström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : A powerful bactericidal activity can be induced in the hemolymph of many insects as a response to an injection of bacteria. The nature of the effector molecules of this immune response was investigated, using pupae of the Cecropia moth, Hyalophora cecropia. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Characterization of RNA exosome in Insect Cells : Role in mRNA Surveillance

    Författare :Viktoria Hessle; Neus Visa; Maria Carmo-Fonseca; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cell nucleus; nuclear bodies; mRNA surveillance; cotranscriptional assembly; Rrp6; Rrp4; mRNP; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The exosome, an evolutionarily conserved protein complex with exoribonucleolytic activity, is one of the key players in mRNA quality control. Little is known about the functions of the exosome in metazoans. We have studied the role of the exosome in nuclear mRNA surveillance using Chironomus tentans and Drosophila melanogaster as model systems. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Regulation of productivity in Trichoplusia ni and Spodoptera frugiperda Sf9 serum-free cultures

    Författare :Karin Calles; Lena Häggström; Gunnel Dalhammar; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; Insect cells; BEVS; Spodoptera frugiperda; Sf9; Trichoplusia ni; BTI-Tn-5B1-4; specific productivity; conditioned medium; conditioned medium factors; cell cycle; synchronization; G2 M; Bioteknik; Bioengineering; Bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this work has been to characterize the effects of conditioned medium (CM) on insect cell productivity and physiology in order to get a better understanding about the mechanisms that regulate productivity in serum-free media. Two cell lines have been investigated, Spodoptera frugiperda (Sf9) and Trichoplusia ni (T. ni, BTI-Tn-5B1-4). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Impact of autocrine factors on physiology and productivity in Trichoplusia ni serum-free cultures

    Författare :Ulrika Eriksson; Lena Häggström; Per Berglund; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; Trichoplusia ni; High Five; insect cells; BEVS; serum-free medium; yeast extract; conditioned medium; autocrine regulation of proliferation; growth factors; cell cycle; metalloproteinase; specific productivity; Bioteknik; Bioengineering; Bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to increase the understanding of the mechanisms regulating cell proliferation and recombinant protein production in serum-free cultures of Trichoplusia ni (T. ni) insect cells.Conditioned medium (CM) was shown to contain both stimulatory and inhibitory factors (CM factors) influencing cell growth.
