1. Nuclear data uncertainty quantification and data assimilation for a lead-cooled fast reactor : Using integral experiments for improved accuracy
Sammanfattning : For the successful deployment of advanced nuclear systems and optimization of current reactor designs, high quality nuclear data are required. Before nuclear data can be used in applications they must first be evaluated, tested and validated against a set of integral experiments, and then converted into formats usable for applications. 2. Characterization of RNA exosome in Insect Cells : Role in mRNA Surveillance
Sammanfattning : The exosome, an evolutionarily conserved protein complex with exoribonucleolytic activity, is one of the key players in mRNA quality control. Little is known about the functions of the exosome in metazoans. We have studied the role of the exosome in nuclear mRNA surveillance using Chironomus tentans and Drosophila melanogaster as model systems. LÄS MER
3. WRAP53 unwrapped : roles in nuclear architecture and cancer
Sammanfattning : WRAP53 is a gene of multiple functions; it encodes for a natural antisense transcript that regulates the actions of the tumour suppressor p53, and it gives rise to a protein with oncogenic properties that is important for Cajal body formation and maintenance. Natural antisense transcripts are a group of regulatory RNAs implicated in many aspects of eukaryotic gene expression including transcription, RNA localization, translation and RNA stability. LÄS MER
4. Applications of diffusion MRI: Tensor-valued encoding, time-dependent diffusion, and histological validation
Sammanfattning : Diffusion MRI (dMRI) sensitizes the MR signal to the diffusion of water molecules at the microscopic level and thereby non-invasively probes tissue microstructure. This is relevant when determining biological properties of tissues, for example, cancer type and its malignancy. LÄS MER
5. mRNA degradation factors as regulators of the gene expression in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Sammanfattning : Messenger RNA degradation is crucial for the regulation of eukaryotic gene expression. It not only modulates the basal mRNA levels but also functions as a quality control system, thereby controlling the availability of mRNA for protein synthesis. LÄS MER
