  1. 1. Stress Coping Strategies in Brown Trout (Salmo Trutta): Ecological Significance and Effects of Sea-Ranching

    Författare :Daniel Brelin; Svante Winberg; Erik Petersson; Jörgen Johnsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zoophysiology; Stress-coping-strategies; Animal-personalities; Behavioral-syndromes; Brown trout; Salmo trutta; Catecholamines; Sexual maturation; Hatchery; Phenotype; Learning; Zoofysiologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Two distinct stress coping strategies, proactive and reactive, have been stated in various animal studies, each associated with a set of behavioural and physiological characteristics. In a given challenging situation, proactive animals show more aggression, a higher general activity and a predominant sympathetic reaction. LÄS MER

  2. 2. On extrinsic and intrinsic organizational themes in gram negative bacteria and their role in evolution and virulence of the bacterial genus Salmonella spp

    Författare :Anders Folkesson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Salmonella; fimbriae; evolution; cell wall; peptidoglycan;

    Sammanfattning : Gram-negative bacteria are composed of intrinsic organizational themes such as outer and inner membrane, cell wall, and replicons. Themes that not only determine the body-plan and physical properties but also set the boundaries for choice of life style and evolution of the organisms. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Systems Biology of Yeast Lipid Metabolism

    Författare :Pramote Chumnanpuen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transcriptome; Integrated analysis; Lipidome.; Inositol-choline; Opi1; Yeast lipid metabolism; high throughput techniques; Ino4; TORC1; Snf1; Ino2;

    Sammanfattning : Lipid metabolism plays an important role in the development of many different life-style related diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and atherosclerosis, and understanding the molecular mechanisms behind regulation of lipid biosynthesis and degradation may lead to development of new therapies. In this project we undertook a global study of lipid metabolism in the eukaryotic model organism Saccharomyces cerevisiae. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Genomic studies of mating system variation in flowering plants

    Författare :Juanita Gutiérrez-Valencia; Tanja Slotte; Magne Friberg; Mario Vallejo-Marín; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mating system evolution; cross- and self-fertilization; distyly; supergenes; complex phenotypic polymorphism; convergent evolution; homostyly; loss-of-function mutation; intrasexual competition; pollen; purifying selection; Linum; Arabis alpina; Ecology and Evolution; ekologi och evolution;

    Sammanfattning : The striking diversity of reproductive strategies that flowering plants exhibit remains one of the most intriguing conundrums in evolutionary biology. Pollination-related traits and mating system strategies have a major impact on the processes shaping plant evolution through their effects on genetic diversity and selection. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Role of estrogen receptor beta in mouse ventral prostate with relation to human prostatic diseases

    Författare :Otabek Imamov; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis we investigate role of estrogen receptor beta (ERbeta) in development and functioning of mouse ventral prostate, using it as a model for human extrapolations. ERbeta was discovered in 1995 and is a member of a nuclear receptors superfamily, acting as a transcription factor for steroid hormone signaling. LÄS MER
