  1. 1. Regulation of Leptin by Sexual Maturation and Energy Status in Male Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar L.) Parr

    Författare :Susanne Trombley; Monika Schmitz; Sylvie Dufour; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Leptin; leptin receptor; Atlantic salmon; Salmo salar; sexual maturation; puberty; energy balance; hepatocytes; sex steriods; Biology with specialization in Comparative Physiology; Biologi med inriktning mot jämförande fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Leptin is a peripheral adiposity signal and a key hormone in energy balance regulation in mammals, acting as a link between nutritional status and the endocrine reproductive axis. If this is also the role of leptin in fish is not fully understood. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Role of leptin in energy balance and sexual maturation in male Atlantic salmo (Salmo salar L.) parr

  3. 3. Growth hormone and somatolactin function during sexual maturation of female Atlantic salmon

    Författare :Susana Benedet Perea; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Growth hormone; somatolactin; insulin-like growth factor I; GH; SL; IGFI; GHR; SLR; IGFIR; ovary maturation; reproduction; Atlantic salmon; spawning; pituitary;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: The growth hormone-insulin-like growth factor I (GH-IGF-I) system is known to act during sexual maturation of female salmonids, but the specific roles are not known. Somatolactin (SL) is a pituitary hormone closely related to GH and is only found in fish. In some species, including salmonids, there are two forms, SLa and SLß. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Stress Coping Strategies in Brown Trout (Salmo Trutta): Ecological Significance and Effects of Sea-Ranching

    Författare :Daniel Brelin; Svante Winberg; Erik Petersson; Jörgen Johnsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zoophysiology; Stress-coping-strategies; Animal-personalities; Behavioral-syndromes; Brown trout; Salmo trutta; Catecholamines; Sexual maturation; Hatchery; Phenotype; Learning; Zoofysiologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Two distinct stress coping strategies, proactive and reactive, have been stated in various animal studies, each associated with a set of behavioural and physiological characteristics. In a given challenging situation, proactive animals show more aggression, a higher general activity and a predominant sympathetic reaction. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Speciation - What Can be Learned from a Flycatcher Hybrid Zone?

    Författare :Chris Wiley; Anna Qvarnström; Lars Gustafsson; Roger Butlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biology; speciation; reinforcement; fitness; postzygotic isolation; asymmetrical hybridization; hybrid zone; species recognition; mate choice; sexual selection; direct benefits; parasite resistance; delayed plumage maturation; Ficedula hypoleuca; Ficedula albicollis; flycatcher; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Studies of hybrid zones offer important insights into the process of speciation. Much of the knowledge to be gained is dependent on an accurate estimation of the strength of pre- and post-zygotic isolation between hybridizing taxa. My results demonstrate that hybridization can variously affect different components of fitness. LÄS MER
