1. Transition Metal Hydrides : Biomimetic Studies and Catalytic Applications
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, studies of the nature of different transition metal-hydride complexes are described. The first part deals with the enantioswitchable behaviour of rhodium complexes derived from amino acids, applied in asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of ketones. LÄS MER
2. Catalytic Methods to Convert Allylic Substrates through Hydride and Proton Shifts : Transition Metal-Catalyzed and Organocatalyzed Approaches
Sammanfattning : The present thesis describes the development of new catalytic protocols to transform allylic substrates into a wide variety of versatile carbonyl and vinyl organic compounds. All procedures that are described in this work have in common the existence of one or more hydrogen shifts as key steps in the mechanism of the reactions. LÄS MER
3. Transition Metal Hydride Complexes and Hydrogenated Gallium Clusters : Synthesis and Structural Properties
Sammanfattning : Synthesis and structural characterisation of metal hydrides in two important systems are presented. The first system presented is low valent cobalt and nickel complex hydrides with the compositions BaMg5Co2H10, RbMg5CoNiH10, SrMg2CoH7and Sr4Mg4Co3H19 featuring nickel with oxidation state of 0 and cobalt with oxidation state +I and -I. 4. Transition Metal-Catalyzed Redox Reactions : A Journey from Homogeneous Ruthenium to Heterogeneous Palladium Catalysis
Sammanfattning : The first part of the thesis covers the development and utilization of electronically modified (pentaarylcyclopentadienyl)Ru-complexes in the racemization of secondary alcohols. This study revealed that the electronic properties of the substrate were the main factors dictating whether β-hydride elimination or hydride re-addition becomes the rate-determining step of the racemization process. 5. Transition metal-catalyzed reduction of carbonyl compounds : Fe, Ru and Rh complexes as powerful hydride mediators
Sammanfattning : A detailed mechanistic investigation of the previously reported ruthenium pseudo-dipeptide-catalyzed asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of aromatic ketones was performed. It was found that the addition of alkali metals has a large influence on both the reaction rate and the selectivity, and that the rate of the reaction was substantially increased when THF was used as a co-solvent.
