    Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis is the clinical use of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in patients with stroke or atrial fibrillation. Subjects were examined with echocardiography and sonography of the carotid artery.     Sammanfattning : Patent foramen ovale (PFO) is found in 27% of the population and although mostly asymptomatic, PFO has been associated with e.g. cryptogenic stroke and, rarely, also with oxygen desaturation.     Sammanfattning : Study I: Thirteen patients underwent a modified Ross operation in which the free-standing pulmonary autograft was supported externally by a Dacron vascular prosthetic jacket (DVPJ). The tailor-made DVPJ prevented dilatation of the neo-aortic root significantly following a median follow-up of 47 months compared to a cohort of l3 matched patients undergoing conventional Ross operation.
