1. Development of a Noise-Based Method for the Determination of the Moderator Temperature Coefficient of Reactivity (MTC) in Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs)
Sammanfattning : The Moderator Temperature Coefficient of reactivity (MTC) is an important safety parameter of Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs). In most countries, the so-called at-power MTC has to be measured a few months before the reactor outage, in order to determine if the MTC will not become too negative. LÄS MER
2. NMR Studies of Colloidal Systems in and out of Equilibrium
Sammanfattning : The Thesis describes (i) the development of add-on instrumentation extending the capabilities of conventional NMR spectrometers and (ii) the application of the designed equipments and techniques for investigating various colloidal systems. The new equipments are: Novel designs of stopped-flow and temperature–jump inserts intended for conventional Bruker wide-bore superconductive magnets. LÄS MER
3. Modal Dynamics of Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers
Sammanfattning : In this work, a comprehensive dynamic model has been developed for simulating a novel semiconductor laser type, referred to as the Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL). The high-speed behavior was simulated and compared to experiments, where excellent agreement was found. LÄS MER
4. Electrical Characterisation of III-V Nanowire MOSFETs
Sammanfattning : The ever increasing demand for faster and more energy-efficient electricalcomputation and communication presents severe challenges for the semiconductor industry and particularly for the metal-oxidesemiconductorfield-effect transistor (MOSFET), which is the workhorse of modern electronics. III-V materials exhibit higher carrier mobilities than the most commonly used MOSFET material Si so that the realisation of III-V MOSFETs can enable higher operation speeds and lower drive voltages than that which is possible in Si electronics. 5. Evaluation of climate model simulations by means of statistical methods
Sammanfattning : Evaluation of climate model simulations is a key issue within climate research. The statistical framework proposed by Sundberg et al., 2012, provides a theoretical underpinning of methods for evaluation of climate models by use of climateproxy data from the last millennium. LÄS MER
