  1. 16. Expression and activity of Myc network proteins during cell cycle progression and differentiation

    Författare :Nikita Popov; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Transcription factors of Myc network are the key regulators of cell proliferation, cell death and differentiation. Identified as a transforming oncogene, myc is the driving force of a variety of human cancers, and inactivation of myc in tumors can cause their rapid regression. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Telomeres and telomerase and their functional applications in myeloproliferative neoplasms and acute myeloid leukemia

    Författare :Jenny Dahlström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are a group of diseases characterized by hyperproliferation in the myeloid lineages of the bone marrow, leading to increased levels of circulating mature blood cells from one or more lineages. MPNs consist of polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia and primary myelofibrosis. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) expression : the role of histone modification and alternative splicing

    Författare :Zheng Ge; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Telomerase, an RNA-dependent DNA polymerase responsible for telomeric DNA elongation, is silent in most normal differentiated human cells due to the tight repression of its catalytic unit, telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), whereas constitutive hTERT expression and telomerase activation are prerequisites for cellular immortalization/malignant transformation. As reconfiguration of chromatin acts like a master on/off switch, determining whether particular genes are active or inactive, the project was specifically designed to first elucidate molecular strategies that integrate diverse signalling pathways at the hTERT chromatin and consequently result in telomerase activation or repression in normal and malignant human cells. 4. 19. The role of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) in human malignancies : genetic regulation and telomere lengthening-independent oncogenic activities

    Författare :Jingya Yu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Telomerase is a ribonucleoprotein enzyme maintaining telomere length. Telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT), which acts as a catalytic unit, is tightly repressed in differentiated human cells while activated in cancer cells for telomere lengthening. LÄS MER

  5. 20. The p53 pathway : role of telomerase and identification of novel targets : acts of a master regulator of tumor suppression

    Författare :Rabaiyat Rahman-Roblick; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : A key role of the p53 protein in tumor suppression is reflected by its frequent mutations in human tumors. p53 is activated by various types stress conditions such as DNA damage, hypoxia and oncogene activation that results in p53-mediated cellular responses including DNA repair, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis.
