1. On Surface Topography of Cylinder Liners
Sammanfattning : The frictional losses, oil consumption and emissions in internal combustion engines are in great extent controlled by the cylinder liner surface topography. This emphasises the importance of: investigating the liner’s topography by objectively characterising it, investigating its effects on the tribological function to gain a better understanding and improving its manufacturing. 2. Wafer Bonding - Problems and Possibilities
Sammanfattning : The wafer bonding technology offers a unique opportunity to combine different materials. This has been used for the realisation of novel silicon on insulator (SOI) structures. By replacing the buried silicon dioxide layer with a polycrystalline diamond film the thermal properties of the SOI structure are improved. LÄS MER
3. Cycle paths’ degradation processes and surface condition assessment
Sammanfattning : A shift in modal share from car driving to cycling has many benefits, both from individual- and societal perspectives, e.g., better health from an increase in physical activity, lower levels of pollution and congestion. However, there are also some potential problems with such a shift. LÄS MER
4. Finite element methods for surface problems
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to further develop numerical methods for solving surface problems by utilizing tangential calculus and the trace finite element method. Direct computation on the surface is possible by the use of tangential calculus, in contrast to the classical approach of mapping 2D parametric surfaces to 3D surfaces by means of differential geometry operators. 5. Surface-Densified Wood : From Laboratory-Scale Research Towards a Competitive Product
Sammanfattning : For many decades, humans have been consuming more resources than the world has to offer in the long run. Increasing the use of renewable materials, such as wood, is essential if we are to achieve a sustainable use of the resources available to us. LÄS MER
