1. Performance Analysis of Massive MIMO in Non-Ideal Settings
Sammanfattning : Recent years have witnessed an unprecedented explosion in mobile data traffic, due to the expansion of numerous types of wireless devices, which have enabled a plethora of data-hungry applications. Novel techniques, such as massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, represent potential candidates to support these formidable demands. LÄS MER
2. Analysis and Design of Rateless Codes
Sammanfattning : The invention of turbo codes and the re-discovery of sparse graph codes constitute a milestone in error-correction codes designed for communication and storage systems. Sparse graph codes such as low-density parity-check codes can offer a performance that approaches the previously elusive Shannon capacity with reasonable practical computational complexity. LÄS MER
3. Retrieving cloud ice masses from geostationary images with neural networks
Sammanfattning : Clouds are essential to the Earth's energy budget and atmospheric circulation. Despite this, many cloud parameters are poorly known, including the mass of frozen hydrometeors. On the one hand, there will be specialized satellite missions targeting such hydrometeors. On the other hand, existing satellite data can be leveraged. LÄS MER
4. Development and evaluation of methods for control and modelling of multiple-input multiple-output systems
Sammanfattning : In control, a common type of system is the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system, where the same input may affect multiple outputs, or conversely, the same output is affected by multiple inputs. In this thesis two methods for controlling MIMO systems are examined, namely linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) control and decentralized control, and some of the difficulties associated with them. 5. Low and Medium Level Vision Using Channel Representations
Sammanfattning : This thesis introduces and explores a new type of representation for low and medium level vision operations called channel representation. The channel representation is a more general way to represent information than e.g. as numerical values, since it allows incorporation of uncertainty, and simultaneous representation of several hypotheses.
