16. Optical studies of crystal phase heterostructures
Sammanfattning : III-V semiconductors are commonly used for a variety of optical applications, such as LED based lights and solar sells. Most III-V semiconductors, such as GaAs and InP, exhibit the zinc-blende (zb) crystal structure, but in the form of nanowires it is also possible to create them in the wurtzite (wz) crystal structure. 17. Towards single Ce ion detection in a bulk crystal for the development of a single-ion qubit readout scheme
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis was concerned with investigating the relevant spectroscopic properties of Ce ions randomly doped in an Y2SiO5 crystal at low temperatures (around 4 K), in order to develop a technique and an experimental set-up to detect the fluorescence photons emitted by a single Ce ion. The aim of the work was to determine whether a single Ce ion (referred to as the readout ion) can be used as a local probe to sense the quantum state of a neighbouring single-ion qubit via a state-selective interaction between the readout and qubit ion. 18. Single crystal sapphire dental implants : experimental and clinical studies
Sammanfattning : The aim of this project was to evaluate single synthetic sapphire crystals as dental implants, with special reference to correlation of clinical and in vitro/in vivo methods of research. The laboratory studies confirmed chemical stability. LÄS MER
19. Toughness Enhancement in Hard Single-Crystal Transition-Metal Nitrides : V-Mo-N and V-W-N Alloys
Sammanfattning : Transition-metal nitrides are known for their high hardness, good wear resistance, high-temperature stability, and chemical inertness. Because of these properties, they are extensively used in many industrial applications, notably as protective wear, erosion, and scratch resistant coatings, which are often subjected to high thermo-mechanical stresses. 20. Molecular Alligator Clips: A Study of Metal-Molecule Contacts for Molecular Electronics
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we present a computational study of the elementary building blocks for molecular electronics, interconnected electronic devices with critical dimensions below 5 nm. Building electronic circuits on that scale requires stable connection between the various parts of the device and to the macroscopic metal electrodes, needed for power supply, support and integration with conventional electronics.
