  1. 6. The Effect of Snow on Plants and Their Interactions with Herbivores

    Författare :Mikaela Torp; Johan Olofsson; Christa Mulder; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Snow; arctic ecosystem; plant-herbivore interactions; phenology; nitrogen; phenolics; experimental manipulation; natural gradient; inter-annual variability; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : The ongoing climate changes are predicted to accelerate fast in arctic regions with increases in both temperatures and precipitation. Although the duration of snow cover is generally expected to decrease in the future, snow depth may paradoxically increase in those areas where a large amount of the elevated precipitation will fall as snow. 2. 7. On the Arctic Seasonal Cycle

    Författare :Jonas Mortin; Gunilla Svensson; Rune G. Graversen; Wolfgang Dierking; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic climate; Seasonal melt-freeze transitions; Arctic sea ice and snow; Active microwave measurements; Climate model evaluation; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : The seasonal cycle of snow and sea ice is a fundamental feature of the Arctic climate system. In the Northern Hemisphere, about 55 million km2 of sea ice and snow undergo complete melt and freeze processes every year. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Traffic-related pollutants in urban snow : Concentrations, size fractionation, and release with snowmelt

    Författare :Arya Vijayan; Maria Viklander; Helene Österlund; Göran Blomqvist; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Urban snow; Traffic pollution; Suspended solids; Metals; PAHs; Tire and Road wear Particles T RWPs ; Microplastics MPs ; Size fractionation; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering; Centrumbildning - Centrum för dagvattenhantering DRIZZLE ; Centre - Centre for Stormwater Management DRIZZLE ;

    Sammanfattning : In urban areas with seasonal snow, traffic-related pollutants such as solid particles, metals, chloride, organic pollutants, and microplastics (MPs) can be temporarily stored in snowbanks along roads and streets. When the snow melts, it releases the accumulated pollutants and the resulting snowmelt with diverse pollutants may partly infiltrate into the ground, or enter storm sewers and eventually be discharged into, and impact on, the receiving waters. 4. 9. Seasonal snow storage for space and process cooling

    Författare :Kjell Skogsberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vattenteknik; Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : The world’s cooling demand has increased considerably during the last decades due to increased population, industrialisation, comfort demands, electronic equipment usage and new building technologies. Conventional cooling is often produced by electrically driven devices. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Mercury cycling in the global marine environment

    Författare :Michelle Nerentorp; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; sea ice; air; seasonal and spatial variation; snow; Mercury cycling; seawater; mercury flux;

    Sammanfattning : Mercury is a globally distributed contaminant that exists in the atmosphere in its elemental form as a stable monoatomic gas. Having a residence time of around one year in air allows it to be transported far from emission sources and end up in polar ecosystems. LÄS MER
