  1. 26. Physiology and pathophysiology of central adenosine A1 and A2A receptors

    Författare :Linda Halldner Henriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adenosine; A1 receptor; A2A receptor; knock-out mouse; in situ hybridization; receptor autoradiography; sleep; hypoxia-ischemia; behavior; motor activity; caffeine; tolerance;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to further investigate the individual roles of central adenosine A1 and A2A receptors in the physiological and pathophysiological effects of adenosine. In addition, the characteristics of different adenosine receptor ligands were studied. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Distribution and function of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in glia cells and neurons with focus on the neuroprotective mechanisms of cholesterol lowering drugs in Alzheimer's disease

    Författare :Jin Xiu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Nicotinic acetylcholine receptor; Alzheimer s disease; glia cells; Abeta; cholesterol; cholesterollowering drugs;

    Sammanfattning : Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are involved in the regulation of many processes including synapses regeneration, neurotransmission and neuroprotection in the central nervous system (CNS). There is increasing evidence for the disturbances in nAChRs in Alzheimer's disease (AD). LÄS MER

  3. 28. Studies on the transcriptional regulation of sterol 12alpha-hydroxylase (CYP8B1)

    Författare :Yizeng Yang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Bile acids; CYP8B1; CYP7A1; transcription; nuclear receptor; PPAR-alpha; HNF4-alpha; FTF; SREBP; thyroid hormones.;

    Sammanfattning : The conversion of cholesterol into bile acids is mainly via two pathways, which are initiated by CYP7A1 and CYP27A1 respectedly. CYP8B1, a microsomal P450 cytochrome, hydroxylates of the steroid nucleus at the C-12alpha position to form 7alpha, 12alpha-dihydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one, a facultative precursor of CA. LÄS MER

  4. 29. Genetic and immunological control of human myasthenia gravis

    Författare :Xiaoyan Zhao; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Myasthenia Gravis MG ; beta2-adrenergic receptor beta2-AR ; CCR2; CCR5; cytolytic T lymphocyte-associated antigen-4 CTLA-4 ; OX40;

    Sammanfattning : Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a classical autoimmune disease characterized by muscle weakness due to an immune attack against the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (AChR) on the post-synaptic membrane of the neuromuscular junction. Because of the involvement of multiple factors in the disease, the overall aims of this thesis were to uncover the regulation of candidate genes and the possible cellular mechanisms involved in the immuno-regulation of human MG. 5. 30. Effects of ethanol on muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in nerve cells

    Författare :Murielle Hellsten Caron; Institutionen för laboratoriemedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; nerve cell; SH-SY5Y; NOS; PKC; PLC; Ethanol; mAChR;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focused on the mechanisms involved in the effects of long-term ethanol treatment on mAChRs and their coupled-signal transduction pathway in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells. All 5 subtypes of mAChRs were expressed in these cells. LÄS MER
