6. Neuropathic pain : somatosensory functions related to spontaneous ongoing pain, mechanical allodynia and pain relief
Sammanfattning : Introduction and aim: Patients with neuropathic pain suffer from spontaneous ongoing pain and from abnormal stimulus-evoked pain, e.g., allodynia. LÄS MER
7. Local and systemic inflammatory mediators and their relation to pressure-pain threshold and pain of the temporomandibular joint
Sammanfattning : The first aim of this investigation was to investigate the validity of TMJ pressure-pain threshold for assessment of pain conditions of inflammatory nature in the TMJ. Pressure-pain threshold was recorded from the palpable lateral pole of the TMJ condyle with a hand-held electronic pressure algometer (Somedic Production AB, Sollentuna, Sweden). LÄS MER
8. Masseter muscle pain and its relation to pain mediators in fibromyalgia and local myalgia
Sammanfattning : The aim of this investigation was to study chronic jaw muscle pain in fibromyalgia, local myalgia and healthy individuals in relation to the pain mediators PGE2, LTB4 and NPY and to study the effects of glucocorticoid administration and repetitive isometric contraction. A questionnaire showed presence of symptoms from the temporomandibular region in almost all fibromyalgia patients and the local pain was correlated to the general pain but on a lower level. LÄS MER
9. Intrathecal adenosine for treatment of acute pain : safety assessments and evaluation in experimental, surgical and labour pain
Sammanfattning : Adenosine is an endogenous compound present in all cells in the body with a wide range of physiological effects. Exogenous administration of adenosine is used clinically as an antiarrytmic agent and as a vasodilator. LÄS MER
10. Pain influences somatosensory perception : an experimental and clinical study
Sammanfattning : The underlying mechanisms maintaining long-term pain localised to musculoskeletal structures and joints are not infrequently unknown. In routine clinical work with such patients insufficient attention has been paid to phenomena indicating altered excitability of the central nervous system (CNS). LÄS MER
