  1. 6. The search for reversibility of Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus : Aspects on intracranial pressure measurments and CSF volume alteration

    Författare :Niklas Lenfeldt; Jan Malm; Anders Eklund; Katrine Riklund-Åhlström; John D. Pickard; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus; intracranial pressure; subcortical ischemia; neuronal integrity; cortical activation.; infusion test; cerebrospinal fluid dynamics; outflow resistance; compliance; elastance; proton spectroscopy; functional MRI; external lumbar drainage; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) is still a syndrome generating more questions than answers. Today, research focuses mainly on two areas: understanding the pathophysiology – especially how the malfunctioning CSF system affects the brain parenchyma – and finding better methods to select patients benefiting from a shunt operation. 2. 7. Implications of myocardial dysfunction before and after aortic valve intervention

    Författare :Henrik Hultkvist; Farkas Vánky; Rolf Svedjeholm; Jonas Holm; Odd Bech-Hanssen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUNDPostoperative heart failure in the setting of aortic valve surgery results in poor long-term survival. We hypothesized that there could be a myocardial factor that is not addressed by risk scores currently available. We speculated that this myocardial factor could be diastolic dysfunction. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Blood pressure-dependent changes in plasma volume, glycocalyx and platelet function during anaesthesia -Clinical and experimental studies

    Författare :Tor Damén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; anaesthesia; blood pressure; hypotension; norepinephrine; haematocrit; plasma volume; atrial natriuretic peptide; glycocalyx; platelet aggregation;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Worldwide, more than 300 million surgeries are performed each year. General anaesthesia provides the surgical patient with a state of controlled loss of sensation and awareness. It is common that general anaesthesia causes hypotension. Anaesthesia-induced hypotension is associated with haemodilution and increased plasma volume (PV). LÄS MER

  4. 9. Analysis of ICP pulsatility and CSF dynamics : the pulsatility curve and effects of postural changes, with implications for idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus

    Författare :Sara Qvarlander; Anders Eklund; Jan Malm; Richard Birgander; Martin U Schuhmann; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cerebrospinal fluid; CSF dynamics; Intracranial pressure; Pulse pressure; Normal pressure hydrocephalus; Posture; Predictive tests; Mathematical modelling; Magnetic resonance imaging; Infusion tests;

    Sammanfattning : The volume defined by the rigid cranium is shared by the brain, blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). With every heartbeat the arterial blood volume briefly increases and venous blood and CSF are forced out of the cranium, leading to pulsatility in CSF flow and intracranial pressure (ICP). LÄS MER

  5. 10. Respiratory mechanics during mechanical ventilation in health and in disease

    Författare :Cecilia Svantesson; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Recruitment; Collapse; Overdistension; Viscoelasticity; Elastic pressure-volume curve; Respiratory disease; Health; Human; Rabbit; Positive end-expiratory pressure; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård;

    Sammanfattning : The elastic pressure-volume (Pel-V) curve of the respiratory system can be used as a guide for improved ventilator management. It may indicate risks of lung damage associated with collapse or overdistension of lung units. LÄS MER
