1. Secondary Metabolites from Mozambican Plants
Sammanfattning : Products derived from different natural sources have been used for thousands of years by human beings for their everyday needs. Out of these natural sources, plants were the most affordable. Plant-derived products were used for shelter, food, and as medicines. LÄS MER
2. Antioxidant Activity of Bolivian Plant Secondary Metabolites
Sammanfattning : Certain climatologically-adverse conditions in the basin of the Poopo Lake, located on the high plateau of the Bolivian Altiplano, have prevented the existence of a reliable agricultural system and the impact on the population of the area has been severe. These problems have been the main motivation in choosing this region for this particular study. LÄS MER
3. Elicitor-induced formation of secondary products in plant cell cultures. Production of benzophenanthridine alkaloids in Eschscholtzia californica Cham. and hydroxycinnamic acid tyramides in Nicotiana glutinosa L
Sammanfattning : Biotic and abiotic elicitors induce biosynthesis of secondary metabolites (phytoalexins) as a defense against pathogenic organisms in plants. The use of cell suspension cultures in combination with elicitors offer excellent experimental model systems for studies on various elicitor-induced responses of plant tissues. LÄS MER
4. Integration of Arabidopsis and poplar model systems to elucidate gene function during wood formation
Sammanfattning : Wood is an essential raw material being used for a number of different applications including construction, pulp and paper production and as a source of biomass for bioenergy generation. The increasing number of sequenced plant genomes provides powerful tools to evaluate plant gene function. LÄS MER
5. Spatial patterns in the interaction between Salix triandra and associated parasites
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on mechanisms and processes underlying spatial patterns of resistance and virulence and on local adaptations in plant–parasite interactions. The model system used comprises the plant host Salix triandra, the pathogenic rust fungus Melampsora amygdalinae, the leaf beetle Gonioctena linnaeana, and the galler Pontania triandrae. LÄS MER
