11. Population Genetic Analyses of Natal Dispersal and Substructure in Three Bird Species
Sammanfattning : Genetic variation within and among populations is a result of past and ongoing processes. Among the most important of such processes are dispersal, habitat fragmentation and selection. This thesis use neutral genetic variation as a tool to investigate these processes in three bird species. LÄS MER
12. The plasticity and geography of host use and the diversification of butterflies
Sammanfattning : Our world is changing rapidly and factors like urbanisation, changed agricultural practices and climate change are causing losses in butterfly diversity. It is therefore of importance to understand the source of their diversity. LÄS MER
13. A forest dark : an evolutionary history of Norway spruce
Sammanfattning : Embedded within the relationships among species is a dense forest of gene trees, each with a potentially unique and discordant history. Such widespread genealogical heterogeneity is expected, but embracing this hierarchy of discordance while reconstructing the histories of populations and species remains a major challenge. LÄS MER
14. Phylogeography and mitochondrial DNA diversity in arctic lemmings
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the effects of Quaternary environmental fluctuations on the present patterns of mitochondrial DNA variation in the wood lemming, Myopus schisticolor, and the two genera of Arctic lemmings: collared lemmings, Dicrostonyx, and true lemmings, Lemmus. The phylogeographic pattern and the limited mtDNA diversity in the Scandinavian populations of the wood lemming reflect recent colonization by a limited number of founders during the Holocene boreal forest expansion. 15. Systematics of polyploid Dactylorhiza (Orchidaceae) - genetic diversity, phylogeography and evolution
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines genetic variation in allotetraploids of the Dactylorhiza incarnata/maculata polyploid complex in different parts of Europe. The molecular markers used were AFLPs, allozymes, ITS, nuclear microsatellites and plastid DNA markers. LÄS MER
