  1. 11. Studies on Natural Variation and Evolution of Photoperiodism in Plants

    Författare :Karl Holm; Ulf Lagercrantz; Martin Lascoux; Seth Jon Davis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :photoperiodism; circadian; flowering time; natural variation; evolution; Caspella bursa-pastoris; Physcomitrella patens; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär funktionsgenomik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Functional Genomics;

    Sammanfattning : Photoperiodism refers to the organism’s ability to detect and respond to seasonal changes in the daily duration of light and dark and thus constitutes one of the most significant and complex examples of the interaction between the organism and its environment. This thesis attempts to describe the prevalence of variation in a photoperiodic response, its adaptive value, and its putative genetic basis in a common cruciferous weed, Capsella bursa-pastoris (Brassicaceae). 2. 12. Symbiotic and pathogenic factors in plant-microbe interaction: Structural basis of C-glycoside metabolism and lipoprotein transport in bacteria

    Författare :Valentina Furlanetto; Christina Divne; Mats Sandgren; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant-Bacteria Interaction; Symbiotic Communication; C-Glycosylated Compounds; Enzymatic Deglycosylation; Pathogenic Interactions; Lipoprotein Localization; Lol System; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Sammanfattning : The communication between plants and bacteria involves a complex chemical signaling network that mediates responses to various biotic and abiotic stresses, as well as establishing symbiotic relationships between different organisms.The first part of the thesis focuses on a mechanism for symbiotic communication between plants and bacteria and more specifically on how C-glycosylated aromatic polyketide compounds produced by plants can be used as a mechanism for plants to communicate with beneficial bacteria. 3. 13. Little strokes fell great oaks : small RNA in potato and Phytophthora infestans interactions

    Författare :Kristian Persson Hodén; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Small RNAs (sRNAs) are non-coding RNAs of approximately 20-30 nucleotides in length. sRNAs bind to Argonaute proteins (AGOs) an integrated partner of the RISC complex. sRNAs act as templates for RISC to recognize complementary mRNA transcripts which can be cleaved by AGOs and thereby cause gene inactivity. 4. 14. Identification of new proteins and biological processes in the apicomplexan Toxoplasma gondii

    Författare :Silvia Botero-Kleiven; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The apicomplexan protozoan Toxoplasma gondii is a ubiquitous parasite of humans and animals. Entering its host through the digestive system, it possesses the ability to rapidly disseminate in the body and infect a wide range of tissues and cells. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Automated image-based taxon identification using deep learning and citizen-science contributions

    Författare :Miroslav Valan; Fredrik Ronquist; Serge Belongie; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : The sixth mass extinction is well under way, with biodiversity disappearing at unprecedented rates in terms of species richness and biomass. At the same time, given the currentpace, we would need the next two centuries to complete the inventory of life on Earthand this is only one of the necessary steps toward monitoring and conservation of species.
