11. Materials Design for the Improvement of SiC Field Effect Gas Sensor performance in High Temperature Process Control applications
Sammanfattning : Following growing concerns about the effect these last decades of accelerating energy consumption, escalating use of natural (not the least fossil) resources, and waste generation has had on earth’s climate, human health, and the environment, industry is facing mounting pressure to increase the energy-, resource-, and cost-efficiency of both processes and products while drastically reducing pollutant emissions. In response, industry is, besides increasing their utilization of renewable energy and introducing new bio-based products, taking advantage of the rapid development in 5G technology and associated wireless interconnectivity to move towards full automation of production processes and facilities. 12. Extending Microsystems to Very High Temperatures and Chemically Harsh Environments
Sammanfattning : Aiming at applications in space exploration as well as for monitoring natural hazards, this thesis focuses on understanding and overcoming the challenges of extending the applicability of microsystems to temperatures above 600°C as well as chemically harsh environments. Alumina and zirconia high-temperature co-fired ceramics (HTCC) with platinum as the conductor material, have in this thesis, been used to manufacture a wide range of high-temperature tolerant miniaturized sensors and actuators, including pressure and flow sensors, valves, a combustor, and liquid monopropellant microthrusters. 13. Optimal pacing with and implantable pO2 sensor
Sammanfattning : A goal in modern pacemaker technology is to adapt the timing of stimulation to the metabolic demand and to optimize the hemodynamics of the diseased heart. Because the plasma concentration of mixed venous oxygen is a good indicator of workload and circulation, we developed an implantable coulometric blood oxygen sensor to improve the rate adaptation. 14. Tissue Perfusion and Oxygenation Evaluated by Measurements of Tissue Gases and pH. An Experiemental Study
Sammanfattning : Optimum peripheral perfusion, oxygenation and oxygen utilization is a prerequisite for normal wound healing, resistance to infection and cardiac function. The purpose of this study was to evaluate peripheral oxygen utilization by measurements of subcutaneous tissue gases and pH (PscO2, PscCO2 and pHsc) in comparison to established techniques for measurements of periph-eral tissue oxygenation and oxygen utilization in experimental animal models with hyperoxia-hypoxia, acidosis-alkalosis and haemorrhage-resuscitation.
