1. Tissue Perfusion and Oxygenation Evaluated by Measurements of Tissue Gases and pH. An Experiemental Study
Sammanfattning : Optimum peripheral perfusion, oxygenation and oxygen utilization is a prerequisite for normal wound healing, resistance to infection and cardiac function. The purpose of this study was to evaluate peripheral oxygen utilization by measurements of subcutaneous tissue gases and pH (PscO2, PscCO2 and pHsc) in comparison to established techniques for measurements of periph-eral tissue oxygenation and oxygen utilization in experimental animal models with hyperoxia-hypoxia, acidosis-alkalosis and haemorrhage-resuscitation. 2. Habitat-Forming Seaweeds in a Changing Climate
Sammanfattning : Climate change is an umbrella term encompassing some of the largest and most potent selective pressures currently acting on ecosystems. It can have diverse effects on marine systems; the most powerful of which are changes to salinity through altered patterns of precipitation and evaporation, temperature through increased global temperature, and pH through the dissolution of CO2 into seawater where it ultimately reacts with water to form carbonate (CO32-) and hydrogen ions (2H+). 3. Exploring Intestinal Ischemia : An experimental study
Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Unrecognized intestinal mucosal ischemia in severely ill patients may trigger development of multiple organ failure. Such ischemia can be evaluated by intraluminal tonometry reflecting mucosal PCO2 and intramucosal pH (pHi). LÄS MER
4. The small intestine in experimental peritonitis : An experimental study focusing om intestinal energy metabolism, bacterial translocation and mucosal immunology
Sammanfattning : The gut is highly susceptible to injury during sepsis. An impaired mucosal barrier permitstranslocation of enteric microorganisms to blood or other organs. In a porcine model sepsiswas induced by faecal peritonitis. LÄS MER
5. Splanchnic perfusion in cardiac surgery
Sammanfattning : Splanchnic ischemia in cardiac surgery is considered a risk factor in the development of the Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS), which is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the intensive care unit. Splanchnic ischemia/reperfusion may lead to an injury of the intestinal mucosa and induce a systemic inflammation (SIRS), which is proposed to precede MODS. LÄS MER
