21. Micro-scale Platforms for Investigations of Biological Structures
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of innovative micro-scale platforms as a means to address the current challenges within the field of cell biology, and to provide an interface between miniaturized analytical technology and experimental systems for the life sciences. The work includes an analytical platform for rapid assessment of the viability of adherent single cells; a surface patterning strategy for investigations of cell-to-cell communication via protrusions; a versatile microfluidic probe in SU-8 hard-polymer, and a microfabricated millimeter-wave measurement system for the identification and characterization of niosome (non-ionic surfactant vesicle) constituents, which is operated in a label-free, non-invasive manner. 22. Advances in Soft Matter Nanofabrication
Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is placed on the fabrication of engineered nanodevices for the manipulation of soft matter thin films. By combining top-down micro- and nanofabrication approaches with bottom-up self-assembly strategies, new research platforms were developed, tested and characterized. LÄS MER
23. Growth and Characterization of Tandem-Junction Photovoltaic Nanowires
Sammanfattning : In order to satisfy the growing energy needs of our planet’s population, and at the same time mitigate global warming, sustainable energy sources such as solar energy are indispensable. In addition to conventional silicon-based solar cells, nanotechnology offers interesting approaches for complementary applications. LÄS MER
24. Interpolymer complexation of a polymer brush
Sammanfattning : Controllable macromolecular gating between nanoscopic compartments is of high interest for single molecule studies of biological macromolecules. By definition, a good macromolecular gate should completely stop biomolecules, such as proteins, from crossing between compartments in its closed state while letting them pass in its open state. 25. Microresonator combs for coherent optical communications
Sammanfattning : This thesis covers the study of microresonator-based optical frequency combs for use in coherent optical communication links. Current links typically utilize several free-running lasers to achieve wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM). LÄS MER
