Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the present thesis was to reveal nursing home (NH) caregivers’ work ex-periences when receiving support through education and clinical supervision over a two-year period, while the workplace was undergoing organizational changes. The studies (I-IV) com-bine qualitative and quantitative methods in a longitudinal two-year follow-up project in three Swedish NHs (NH I - III), in which support was given to the staff at NH I-II. Sammanfattning : Essay I: This paper takes a novel approach to estimating the effects of involuntary job loss on future earnings, wages and employment. Whereas the previous literature has relied on mass layoffs and plant closures for exogenous variation in displacement, I use the fact that who is laid off is often determined by a seniority rule, specifically the last-in-first-out (LIFO) rule. Sammanfattning : The narrative discourse of Juan Benet is commonly described as an enigmatic, ambiguous and hermetic discourse that cannot be interpreted in an unequivocal way. The aim of this dissertation is to analyse the effect of such a discourse upon the reader by studying the literary code of the author and the interaction that such a code requieres of a 'model reader' (according to Umberto Eco, a reader who takes notice of the poetics underlying Benet's narrative discourse) in order to reach a meaning.
