11. Quasi-Phasematched nonlinear processes in KTiOPO4 isomorphs
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the use of nonlinear crystals from theKTiOPO4(KTP) family with the aim to extend the possibleapplications for laser sources and to gain more knowledge aboutthe materials benefits and limits. The work focussed onoptical parametric oscillators (OPOs) and optical parametricamplifiers (OPAs), which employ second order nonlinearprocesses. LÄS MER
12. Liquid crystalline polymers for nonlinear optics : pyroelectric polymers and ferroelectric dendrimers
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with liquid crystalline materialsincluding monomers, side-chain polymers, crosslinked polymers, and dendrimers. The materials are pyroelectric, meaning thatthere is a macroscopic electric polarization in the material, which is energetically stable in the absence of externalfields. LÄS MER
13. Tailored fiber lasers and their use in nonlinear optics
Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis work was to develop tailored fiber lasers, which meet the pump requirement for efficient continuous-wave (cw) frequency conversion to the visible and the mid-infrared wavelength regimes: a stable, high-power, wavelength-tunable, narrow-linewidth output in a single polarization. As a first step, the prospect of tuning ytterbium fiber lasers over an unprecedented wavelength range, from 980nm to 1100nm, was investigated. LÄS MER
14. Laser spectroscopic analysis of atmospheric gases in scattering media
Sammanfattning : Laser spectroscopic techniques for gas analysis under various influences of light scattering are explored in a wide spectral range from the ultraviolet to the infrared. The techniques rely on spectrally narrow-band light sources that are used in differential optical absorption measurements. LÄS MER
15. Optical Memories and Processing in Time- and Frequency Domain
Sammanfattning : Spectral hole burning and photon echoes are the techniques for frequency-selective optical memories, which have the potential to increase areal data storage density by a factor 10**7. They also have the capability to perform in-memory data processing. LÄS MER
