1. Numerical Simulation of Turbulent Flows for Turbine Blade Heat Transfer Applications
Sammanfattning : Turbine blade heat transfer is an important engineering problem characterized by complex flow fields and high turbulence levels. This thesis is focused on using a full Navier-Stokes solver with two-equation eddy-viscosity models to predict external heat-transfer in single-stage, linear, two-dimensional uncooled turbine cascades. 2. The Hydrodynamics of Waterjet/Hull Interaction
Sammanfattning : The objective of the present investigation is to explore the physics behind the waterjet/hull interaction, and in particular the negative thrust deduction often reported in the semi-planing speed range. Another objective is to propose a validated numerical technique for computing the hydrodynamics of waterjet-driven hulls. LÄS MER
3. Basal boundary conditions, stability and verification in glaciological numerical models
Sammanfattning : To increase our understanding of how ice sheets and glaciers interact with the climate system, numerical models have become an indispensable tool. However, the complexity of these systems and the natural limitation in computational power is reflected in the simplifications of the represented processes and the spatial and temporal resolution of the models. 4. Potential Flow Panel Methods for the Calculation of Free-surface Flows with Lift
Sammanfattning : Two non-linear Rankine-source panel methods are developed and implemented in the same computer code. The first method uses a four-point upwind operator on the free-surface to compute the velocity derivatives and to enforce the radiation condition while the second method uses an analytical expression for the velocity derivatives and a collocation point shift one panel upstream to prevent upstream waves. 5. Shells and filament in flows
Sammanfattning : The motivation to study elastic structures such as filaments and shells stemmed from its application in the construction of tall buildings, bridges etc. Interest in this field has rekindled in the past decades due to growing interest in understanding biological materials and because of possible applications in nanoscience and medicine.
