  1. 16. Control and Communication with Signal-to-Noise Ratio Constraints

    Författare :Erik Johannesson; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Real-time coding; SNR; Causal coding; AWN channel; AWGN channel; Remote source; Networked control; Control over channel; Convex optimization; Wiener filter;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about two problems in the intersection of communication and control theory. Their common feature is that they involve communication over an additive white noise channel with a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) constraint. The first problem concerns the transmission of a real-valued signal from a partially observed Markov source. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Cognition in Hearing Aid Users : Memory for Everyday Speech

    Författare :Hoi Ning Elaine Ng; Jerker Rönnberg; Mary Rudner; Thomas Lunner; Kevin Munro; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Hearing aid; working memory; free recall; noise reduction; speech recognition; Hörapparat; arbetsminne; återgivning; brusreducering; taluppfattning;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis investigated the importance of cognition for speech understanding in experienced and new hearing aid users. The aims were 1) to develop a cognitive test (Sentence-final Word Identification and Recall, or SWIR test) to measure the effects of a noise reduction algorithm on processing of highly intelligible speech (everyday sentences); 2) to investigate, using the SWIR test, whether hearing aid signal processing would affect memory for heard speech in experienced hearing aid users; 3) to test whether the effects of signal processing on the ability to recall speech would interact with background noise and individual differences in working memory capacity; 4) to explore the potential clinical application of the SWIR test; and 5) to examine the relationship between cognition and speech recognition in noise in new users over the first six months of hearing aid use. 3. 18. Towards Automatic Image Analysis for Computerised Mammography

    Författare :Christina Olsén; Frank Drewes; Fredrik Georgsson; Gunilla Borgefors; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer Aided Diagnosis; Quality Assessment; Image Analysis; Ground Truth Assessment; Artificial Intelligence; Measurements; Segmentation Evaluation; Performance Measures; Pattern Recognition; Validation; Decision Support; Medicine; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Mammographic screening is an effective way to detect breast cancer. Early detection of breast cancer depends to a high degree on the adequacy of the mammogram from which the diagnosis is made. Today, most of the analysis of the mammogram is performed by radiologists. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Critical noise factors and their relation to annoyance in working environments

    Författare :Kjell Holmberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Teknisk akustik; Engineering Acoustics;

    Sammanfattning : Noise is one of the most widespread problems in working environments. Besides the obvious risk of hearing damage and masking of warning signals and speech, the effects on concentration, performance, behaviour and general well-being are serious consequences of annoying noise in the working environment. 5. 20. Quantification and Maximization of Performance Measures for Photon Counting Spectral Computed Tomography

    Författare :Moa Yveborg; Hans Bornefalk; Franz Pfeiffer; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spectral computed tomography; silicon detector; detectability index; photon counting; Hotelling SDNR; material basis decomposition;

    Sammanfattning : During my time as a PhD student at the Physics of Medical Imaging group at KTH, I have taken part in the work of developing a photon counting spectrally resolved silicon detector for clinical computed tomography. This work has largely motivated the direction of my research, and is the main reason for my focus on certain issues. LÄS MER
