16. Prenatal Tisse Velocity Imaging of the Heart : A new approach to assess fetal myocardial function
Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis has been to evaluate color‐coded tissue velocity imaging (TVI) as an approach to developing a new, non‐invasive assessment method for fetal myocardial function. Such a method could hypothetically give early indications of fetal pathology, as myocardial dysfunction is often the consequence when the circulation tries to adapt to deteriorating situations. 17. Cardiac Function and Aortic Valve Intervention : Echocardiographic Studies of Myocardial Recovery in Patients with Severe Aortic Valve Disease
Sammanfattning : In patients with severe aortic valve disease, aortic valve intervention is performed when the risk for mortality or morbidity with conservative management is significantly increased. Left ventricular (LV) longitudinal motion decreases before conventional echocardiographic measures such as ejection fraction, are influenced in patients with severe aortic valve disease. LÄS MER
18. Evaluation of Myocardial Function in Chronic Kidney Disease : A Colour Tissue Velocity Imaging Study
Sammanfattning : In patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), overhydration, uremic toxins and left ventricular (LV) dyssynchrony are factors that may lead to LV dysfunction and conduction abnormalities and thus contribute to the high cardiac mortality. Colour tissue velocity imaging (TVI) allows a detailed quantitative analysis of cardiac function in CKD patients, opening new possibilities to evaluate longitudinal myocardial motion, rapid isovolumetric events, LV filling pressure and LV synchronicity. 19. Myocardial protection by hyperoxia
Sammanfattning : Oxygen is essential for normal respiration in aerobic organisms, and prolonged deficit of oxygen always has detrimental consequences. However, all aerobic life forms are faced with the threat of oxidation from molecular oxygen. LÄS MER
20. Insights into left atrial response to pressure and volume overload
Sammanfattning : The general purpose of this thesis is to establish the ability of Speckle Tracking Echocardiography (STE) in assessing left atrial (LA) response to pressure and volume overload respectively in aortic stenosis (AS) and mitral regurgitation (MR), and to evaluate its accuracy in predicting LA and right ventricular (RV) fibrosis in patients with end-stage heart failure (HF) undergoing heart transplantation (HTx).I demonstrated that assessment of left ventricular (LV) long axis systolic velocity and amplitude of excursion is more sensitive than simple determination of ejection fraction (EF) for revealing the beneficial impact of MR surgery on overall LV systolic performance.
