21. Isotope Ratio and Trace Element Measurements Using Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometry : Method Development and Applications in Environmental Forensics
Sammanfattning : Environmental Forensics is a scientific methodology developed for identifying sources, the timing of release, and transport pathways for potentially hazardous environmental contaminants. It combines a variety of analytical methods with principles derived from disciplines such as chemistry, geology, geochemistry, hydrogeology, and statistics, with the purpose to provide objective scientific and legal conclusions on the source and/or time of a contaminant release. 22. Towards Undistorted Fluorescence for Tissue Diagnostics and Therapy Monitoring
Sammanfattning : Fluorescence techniques for applications in tissue diagnostics and therapy monitoring were investigated and developed in the work presented in this thesis. The aim was to develop fluorescence diagnostics for the detection of malignant tumors and better delimitation of the tumor margins, using the enhanced contrast in fluorescence between tumor and surrounding healthy tissue. 23. On reflections of wood : wood quality features modelled by means of multivariate image projections to latent structures in multispectral images
Sammanfattning : Classifying logs and boards has an essential economic impact on the forest products industry. In a modern production chain, quality control and raw material specifications are essential to fulfill production system demands as well as end user demands. LÄS MER
24. Solving the correspondence problem in analytical chemistry : Automated methods for alignment and quantification of multiple signals
Sammanfattning : When applying statistical data analysis techniques to analytical chemical data, all variables must have correspondence over the samples dimension in order for the analysis to generate meaningful results. Peak shifts in NMR and chromatography destroys that correspondence and creates data matrices that have to be aligned before analysis. LÄS MER
25. Quantitative Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a very attractive technique for detection of various organic and inorganic molecules due to its sensitivity and selectivity. The surface enhancement is achieved when the molecules of interest are on or in the vicinity of a metal surface, usually gold and silver. LÄS MER
