6. Prognosis based classification and tumor biology of uterine sarcomas
Sammanfattning : Uterine stromal sarcomas are a heterogenous group of tumors ranging from low-grade stromal sarcomas with a relatively good survival but high risk of recurrence, to undifferentiated uterine sarcomas with a far worse prognosis. Little is known about their biology, and prognostic markers are lacking. LÄS MER
7. Role of latent EBV genes in the induction of genomic instability in Burkitt’s lymphoma
Sammanfattning : Epidemiological and molecular evidence link Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection to a variety of lymphoid and epithelial malignancies but the contribution of the virus to tumorigenesis is unclear. Genomic instability, defined by the establishment of a mutator phenotype and characterized by the occurrence of non-clonal chromosomal aberrations, excessive DNA damage and defects in DNA repair, is the hallmark of malignant transformation. 8. Mechanisms and Consequences of Chromosomal Instability in Malignant tumours
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, telomere deficiency with subsequent anaphase bridging was found to be associated with chromosomal instability in established colorectal cancer cell lines and in Wilms tumour. In colorectal cancer cell lines, anaphase bridging was observed to generate both numerical and structural chromosomal aberrations and was also associated with the presence of multipolar mitoses. 9. Characterization of Male Breast Cancer : From Molecule to Clinical Outcome
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate different aspects of male breast cancer (MBC), and to compare these with findings in female breast cancer (FBC). In paper I, a population–based study was performed to investigate possible differences in treatment and outcome between MBC and FBC patients. LÄS MER
10. Regulation of apoptosis during treatment and resistance development in tumour cells
Sammanfattning : Induction of apoptosis is the most studied cell death process and it is a tightly regulated physiological event that enables elimination of damaged and unwanted cells. Apoptosis can be induced via activation of either the intrinsic or the extrinsic signalling pathway. LÄS MER
