    Sammanfattning : Background: Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN)comprises a large group of tumours including the oral cavity and nasopharyngealarea, and typically affects older males in association with alcohol/tobacco usage.Within the oral cavity, the mobile tongue is the most common site for tumourdevelopment. 2. 2. Microenvironmental Impact on Tumour Cell Phenotype and Genotype in Adult and Paediatric Tumours

    Författare :Hiroaki Yasui; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancer genotype; cancer phenotype; malignant rhabdoid tumour; neuroblastoma; ovarian cancer; tumour evolution; Wilms tumour;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores how the tumour microenvironment affects the phenotype and shapes the evolution of cancer cells. It encompasses four separate studies:First, we explored the effect of chemokines on the peritotumoral microenvironment of ovarian cancer. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Identification, Validation and Implementation of Blastemal Biomarkers in Wilms Tumour

    Författare :Daniel Sehic; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Wilms Tumour; Nephroblastoma; SIX1; Blastema; biomarker; Immunochemisty; Immunohistochemestry;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis has been to establish biomarkers for the blastemal element in Wilms tumour (WT) – the most common paediatric kidney cancer. Blastema is, together with epithelium and stroma, one of the three common histological elements of WT. WTs dominated by blastema after preoperative chemotherapy are classified as high risk tumours. 4. 4. Mechanisms and Consequences of Chromosomal Instability in Malignant tumours

    Författare :Ylva Stewénius; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; structural rearrangement; Ewing family tumour; Chromosomal instability; nephroblastoma; Wilms tumour; chromosomal aberration; anaphase bridge; subtelomeric FISH; breakage-fusion-bridge cycle;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, telomere deficiency with subsequent anaphase bridging was found to be associated with chromosomal instability in established colorectal cancer cell lines and in Wilms tumour. In colorectal cancer cell lines, anaphase bridging was observed to generate both numerical and structural chromosomal aberrations and was also associated with the presence of multipolar mitoses. 5. 5. Structural and Functional Studies of Wilms Tumour Protein - WT1; Novel Insights into Functionality of Zinc Finger Proteins

    Författare :Elmar Nurmemmedov; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; function; structure; transcription factor; cancer; affinity; kinetics; Biacore; RNA binding; DNA binding; Wilms tumour WT1 ; zinc finger;

    Sammanfattning : The molecular process under which message in DNA is relayed onto RNA is called transcription, and it accomplished through involvement of so-called transcription factors. Zinc finger proteins are one of the most abundant classes of regulatory proteins in eukaryotic cells where they play central roles in a variety of cellular activities. LÄS MER
