21. Actions of androgens and estrogens in experimental models of cardiovascular disease
Sammanfattning : Men are at higher risk of developing both atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). Actions of sex steroids are hypothesized to underlie these gender differences. Testosterone, the major androgen, reduces atherosclerosis in male animal models but is suggested to promote AAA formation. LÄS MER
22. Effects and mechanisms of actions of cyclosporin, FK506 and 15-deoxyspergualin
Sammanfattning : Immunosuppressive drugs can be used to deal with unwanted or inappropriate immune reactions, such as the rejection of a transplanted organ. However, treatment with these drugs are often associated with serious adverse effects, and therefore less toxic immunosuppressants are desired. LÄS MER
23. Signal transduction in the brain : modulation of receptor-mediated inositol phospholipid breakdown by potassium and fluoride ions
Sammanfattning : Neurotransmitter receptor types mediating the generation of intracellular signals are of two types; ligand-gated ion channels and G protein coupled receptors. The effector enzyme phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C (PLC) is modulated by stimulation of G protein coupled receptors, leading to an increased breakdown of inositol phospholipids ("Ptdlns breakdown"). 24. Digital technologies in preschool education : The interplay between interactive whiteboards and teachers' teaching practices
Sammanfattning : This thesis is aimed at exploring the ways in which a digital technology, the interactive whiteboard (IWB), interplays with preschool teachers’ teaching practices. In the literature and ongoing debates there are different claims about if and how digital technologies can contribute to children’s development and solving preschool educational challenges. LÄS MER
25. The role of nitric oxide in cytoskeleton-mediated organelle transport and cell adhesion
Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is a signaling molecule that is produced by many different kinds of cells, and it is known to mediate actions such as blood vessel dilation, communication between nerve cells, and killing of bacteria in infections. The cytoskeleton is involved in many important cellular functions, among them intracellular transport of organelles, migration, and cell division. LÄS MER
